| I maybe visiting this city in the next few weeks on business. I will be there for about a week. I have a CCW Permit from my home state of Nevada which I think you honor. What gun laws should I be aware of (i.e. off limit places to carry)? What areas should I stay away from? Thanks |

Here's a link to Indiana code regarding weapons: www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code/title35/ar47/ The biggest one is proabably to make sure you don't have a gun on school property, or even near anything that looks like it might be a school function, as it's a D felony even if you have a permit. Also you can't have a weapon in "controlled areas" of the airport, but I'm not sure what that means exactly. I'm told that if you have a run-in with law enforcement you are not required to let them know you have a CCW permit unless they ask. I've never had to test that though, so you might want to just tell them up front. As of August 2006 we did honor Nevada permits. I don't know if it has changed. We are allowed to carry openly here, but I know of people being hassled by businesses and getting the evil eye from people for doing it. As far as places to avoid, I'm not really sure. I hear that both the east and west side of Indy are bad, but I've known people who live there who never had any trouble, and I've never felt in danger visiting or driving through. |

I probably wouldn't carry it in a hospital or on or in government property or buildings. You can carry in the open, but like the other guy said, it's not a good idea. I don't know about Nevada, but here in Indiana you must have your permit with you when you carry. Don't leave it in your hotel room or some other place. Keep it with you. Enjoy your stay in Indianapolis! All sides of the city can be bad if you stray too far from the immediate downtown area. But actually, even the "bad" areas really are not that bad most of the time. And just like every other city in the nation... stay away from "Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd." pretty much all the time. ![]() Once you get out a little ways though, it's nice on all sides of town. The north side is probably the best though. |

Indy is pretty nice overall, as far as "bad" areas go the "near" north side of the downtown area gets a lot of mention. If you are in one of the few "bad" areas you will know it, just keep going. If you like good artesian water go to the Flowing Well Park on 116th Street West of Hazel Dell Parkway. Link... www.indyscribe.com/local_attractions/flowing_well_park.html Also on the NORTH SIDE is the fashion mall at Keystone at the Crossing and the Castleton Mall. If you want to get outdoors there is an extensive trail system following "mostly" both sides of the White River north of the 465 loop. Fag free too. Finally if you are coming to Indy from Louisville Highway 135 from Corydon to Nashville is a twisty, hilly and very pretty drive any time of the year but especially nice in the fall. In my opinion if you like to drive it's a must, it's a lot of fun. Have fun on Indy's NORTH SIDE. |
