So I'll be visiting the great state of Oregon here in a couple months for an extended weekend, just east of Portland.

I am from WA and OR does not recognize my WA CPL. I have heard some say you can obtain a temporary CPL vistors pass from local or county law enforcement.

Any truth to this or am I hearing bs?

Thanks guys!

Oregon doesn't recognize any other state's permits, and I have never heard of a temporary permit. Open carry is perfectly legal in most localities however.

Complete BS, no temp permit exsists. Non residents can obtain a CHL, if they have valid business here, such as employment or school.

call the sheriff of the county, or email, you plan to spend time in and ask about OC, but all the "main" cities arent OC... like portland, salem, beaveton, eugene i think and a few others.

Just make sure the rape whistle is carried outside of yer shirt and not concealed...unless u have a valid concealed whistle permit.

Im a huge proponent of carrying a firearm and believe that it is our right as individuals to protect ourselves and loved ones. I carry a gun everyday, everywhere I go. That being said I would be very careful about open carrying. In most city's (Beaverton, Portland, Tigard to name a few) you must have a CHL to open carry. The laws, city ordinances and city boundaries can be very confusing and hard to keep track of. For example, in unincorporated Washington County it may be legal to open carry without a CHL but in the city of Beaverton you must have a CHL to open carry. You can be driving down a public highway and be in the city of Beaverton but if you step onto the sidewalk or turn down a side street you are now in Washington County. Again confusing. In the current political climate with regards to firearms you can be sure that if your open carrying someone will call the police and more likely than not you will get some sort of law enforcement attention. Just be sure you know the laws in the area you are visiting. I don't want to see a good hardworking person get jammed up.

I definitely respect people who choose to open carry and don't look down on it in the least bit, however OC is really not for me.

Thanks for the OC/CHL info, much appreciated.

I dream of a time when a CPL is unrestricted and your permit is recognized throughout the country......again I'm just "dreaming"

This is one of the few current OR gun laws that I do not like,  is that our reciprocity is just terrible.

I would like my brother to be able to carry when he comes to visit,  but his Michigan CPL (while valid in 40 states) is not good enough here,  even though we have a live fire test in Michigan to get our permits.

Go to http://www.mcso.us/public/concealed_faq.htm#Oregon. That's the Multnomah County Sheriff's website, their FAQ page. The third question under "General Questions" will provide your answer.

Long story short, you can apply for an Oregon permit and receive one from them. I got mine in 2010. It'll take an application and an appointment for fingerprints and photo, but it can be done. Good luck.
