Hello, My family is going up there (Grand Rapids area) for 4th of July. My wife's cousin was thinking about buying one of my pistols.  I was wondering if we need to do a transfer still or is FTF ok?

If it can even be done, you will need an ffl.

So as long as the purchaser has a valid purchase permit, he can buy it.  If you mail it, it has to be ffl xfer.  You can face to face with proper documents being the purchase permit from the local cleo.

Not positive, but I don't believe this is correct.

I bought a long gun from an IN member a few months ago, and we had to meet at an ffl.

I believe the transfer has to be done through an FFL dealer to be legal.  Ownership of the pistol is transfering from an individual in one State to an individual in another State, just as if the pistol was being shipped, so it needs to be logged into somebody's books for the transfer to be completely legal.  If MI didn't have handgun registration I probably wouldn't worry about it, but we do have registration.

You might contact Rylee's Ace Hardware in downtown GR to see if they would be willing to handle the transfer for you.  There's also Silver Bullet, but I think Rylee's would be your best bet.

Has to go from him being a  FL resident through an FFL here.  Ignore the fella saying you can FTF it, that'll earn you fed attention.  That would only be applicable if he carried MI residency and had them registered here.

On a side note, if you don't know what  you're talking about.

What if the firearm was registered there,  (I was a former resident)  do we still need FFL?  How much are fees there now btw?
