I'm a FL resident stationed in VA.  I have my FL concealed weapons permit, but looking to buy a new handgun once back from deployment.  From what I understand, my FL concealed weapons permit is no good for purchasing handguns without a wait like in FL.

Because of being Military in VA I'm automatically considered a resident by the state.  How long of wait do I have to endure for a purchase of a handgun in VA?

Thanks all for the info!

As I understand it, you just need to show your ID and your orders showing you are here on a permanent assignment.

Make sure you bring a copy of your PCS orders to a base in VA. You will also be limited to 1 handgun for 30 day rule. I sold out, drank the Kool Aid, gave up my FL Drivers Liscense, and got a VA DL. LIfe is now good.

Background check is conducted instantly over the phone, thus no waiting period.

Try to schedule your purchase to a day when there's not a gun show going on, those days have a very high number of call-ins and there can be a wait, not due to any mandated period, but simply due to the lines being busy when merchants try to call the VSP.

Still have 1 gun a month don't we?

So technically he'll have a waiting period of 30 days for his 2nd gun.

Thanks for all the replies!!!

Just wanted to make sure I didn't have to buy the gun and then wait 3 days or something like that to go back and pick it up.

Thanks again!

That's a good reason to get a VA CHP.  I had an FL and a VA one until my FL expired and I got a Utah one...

Correct. I believe the bill that would have repealed 1 gun a month was one of several gun bills that died in the so-called "death star" committee as VCDL called it.

Either way I know it didn't make it this year.
