Can anyone recommend a smith that can thread, reprofile, and refinish AR-15 barrels?  I used to have the name of of a guy in Lehi: Black..something, I think.  I  lost the email messages I exchanged with him and Google just keeps turning up Blackhawk dealers.  I'd like to keep it reasonably local so I can drive over to drop off and pick up the barrel.  Thanks for your help.

I disagree; I have never used a local gunsmith that was anywhere near my standard and I have tried most including the previously mentioned.

There have been a few threads about this in the past and most here agree; a good local gunsmith is as elusive as a snipe.

If it is something I can’t do myself I either figure out how to do it myself or live with it. I have had some good experiences with out of state gunsmiths. Doug Lenara for vintage cowboy guns, Paul Liebenberg for 1911s, Georgia precision for bolt guns are the only gunsmiths I would recommend to anyone.

There is almost nothing you can’t do to an AR15 by yourself aside from barrel work. If that is what you need several people on the forum do that stuff.

Barlows Custom Guns would be another.
