My wife is getting into shooting(finally) and shot for the first time this weekend. She shot my MP15 first, followed by my sig 229(40) after. My love for her was totally confirmed when after shooting my rifle 2 times, she looked at me and said(with a HUGE grin on her face) "This is fun, can I shoot it more?" She was hitting apples at about 30 meters. Not the farthest shot, but not bad for her first few rounds EVER downrange also. She then decides to shoot my sig some. First shot, 12/13 meters, she drills yet another apple off the top of a coke can, then on her 2nd shot she drilled the coke can.
Needless to say, I was both impressed and in love. So on the way home from the cabin, she started talkinga bout what she wanted and stuff. My uncle/aunt are both big gun people, and we had visited with them after. They were attempting to explain the calibers to her and such, but while she enjoyed the shooting, shes not a gun person. Heres my problem though. In my family, other than my aunt/uncle, I only have access to a browning hi-power 9 and my sig in 40. Shes not sure if she wants a revolver, semi, what caliber, and such. Is there anyplace out here that she could try shooting the different style guns and calibers? The range I used to goto while I was in the military would let you rent guns, but I don't know of a place around here that she could see all the different guns. Shes wanting to buy one and do her CCW though a friend of mine who teaches them, along with a few private lessons on rifle/pistol stuff from him since we both firmly believe that while I can teach her more advanced stuff later that I was taught in the military. Another option is the shoots/meets that happen, taking her to one and letting her smooze up with guys/girls to try different style guns and stuff. Of course she would be providing ammo for anything she shoots. And by her providing, I mean she would take the money form me and buy the ammo. Suggestions for something that will allow her to try different styles/calibers? mandatory video of her first 2 shots ever. First shot was the full DA fun. I forgot to tell her second shot would be single action, or a hair trigger as she learned :D First handgun shots |

Hey Jeep 29, I just moved to Hopkinsville for a new job. Where are the best places to go shooting? Traveling back to MO on weekends. Taking my. CCW at Shooting Shack in two weeks. I would be willing to share some of my pistols for the young lady to shoot. Check out the Jones-Keeny Range about 5 miles west of Dawson Springs on Hwy 62. Not too far, nice range, and FREE! |

Small update on this. Told her about it, shes thrilled people are willing to let her shoot. We are finishing up the last stages of our wedding(delayed wedding to pay in cash instead of debt) right now, but come the 19th of this month we will be "married" and can start looking at planning other things and her not going crazy. The "P" and "W"(planning and wedding) words are offlimit in our house for talkinga bout, or even mentioning anything that causes her to think about them more than she has to.
I figure early june will be the weekend I try to see who wants to go |

Alright, wedding is done and over(thank god) so we are mostly free. Other than us never being able to plan every other weekend since her ex husband can't decide till the day of if he wants the kids on his week or not, we are free most weekends and weekdays. Any day work best for you jeep/ect? I was thinking on the 8th or 9th we could do some shooting.
Also, general question for everyone. I am looking at perhaps getting into IDPA and 3-gun shooting. I havn't seen many places in western KY that does these, you all know of anywhere? And for 3 gun, how screwed would I be in the beginner ranks with an 870 pump for my shotgun? |
| Hey man I am down in Martin, TN and there is a 3 gun match at Henry County Gun Club in Paris. Don't know how far of a drive that would be for you, but an 870 will work fine. That's what I used my first time. I wasn't real fast, but I had a blast. And don't worry about trying to be as fast as possible at first. I would suggest just go for it with you 870 until you realize what you want. |

Paris is about an hour(ish) depending on the backroads I take. |

June is pretty filled up for me. Two CCDW classes, club picnic, graduation, wedding, etc. |
