I don't know about the rest of you people here in MI.  But I have never wanted rain so bad in my entire life.  I have a garden with roughly 65 tomato and 60 pepper plants (multiple varieties and other stuff) that is dying out here.  I water them everyday but it doesn't matter.  The soil has become so freaking dry that I am hoping I won't lose any of it.

We are well below are summer average for Rain, and it seems like everytime rain is in the forecast it just blows right on by or hits north or south of us lol.  Supposed to have rain from 12 on, but its sunny no clouds in the area.  I need to get a job as a weatherman.  Least I could say well shit looks like sunny and hot once again, for you Gruven don't expect to see rain for the next 2 weeks lol..

Be thankful that your garden isn't your livelyhood.

Well it does pay for some of my toys though.  I can and sell my own Hot Sauces, BBQ sauces and Spaghetti/Pizza Sauces.  I couldn't fathom the farmers and what they are going through though.  My crop is small in comparison, but I just seeded quite a few more rows just in case 2 weeks ago.

I stand corrected. it is part of your livelyhood.
I'm also a little jealous.
I would love to market bbq sauce.

Well I sell them to locals at the Farmers Market.  I would like to go nation wide but I don't have the resources for such an adventure.  I would say my BBQ sauce though is heaven, and my hot sauce leaves a mark on your butt (tastes great but its hot and man does it hurt leaving).  I am looking for a business partner though if someone has good recipes as well and doesn't mind getting dirty :P

Here is a little free advice:

Don't ever get involved in a partnership!
No matter how well you get along or how badly you need the extra set of hands or the extra money. DON'T DO IT!

Ya, I have been warned before about that.  I am thinking about going into business with my best friend.  But will try and keep it as seperate entities if possible.  I just have to make that next leap.  And right now with the economy in Mi, its really pushing it for me if I want to sell everything to raise the necessary cash I need in order to live out the dream.  Worst case, well I could always move to Mexico lol.

where are you located?  If I drive through there, I'd love to buy some BBQ sauce and hot sauce

I am in Holland.  I won't be making the goods until after July August time frame.  But I do hold regular BBQ's at my house and of course I invite anyone that wants to come sample some good food.  All I ask is BYOB :P

Did I mention that I moonlight as a Sous Chef :P

Thinking about having a get together in the near future actually.  Usually a Saturday.  Will keep posted on the date.  I also ask if anyone wants to pass a dish usually helps (me) with cooking and preparing.  Plus it gives me more time to enjoy my second past time and that is drinking :P

I guess I will have to stop out to farmers market this saturday then.  I live on the southside of Holland, just outside city limits.  I haven't been there in a while, although my family goes often and gets the breadsticks sold there.

Have you tried some straw or other type of mulch to help hold the moisture in?

Neluf,

I hear ya on the rain!!!
I Have a little over 16,000 Blueberry Bushes that I am irrigating 24/7, and have cranked the water pressure up to the limit 2 weeks ago, and still ain't keeping up.

Yesterday I went home, cracked a beer and waited for the rain coming over the lake, and when it got here, called another Berry farmer buddy and whooped it up.
Then it quit. Got less than 3/8" in about 12 min. so most of it ran off and settled in the low spots.

Walked back down to the Irrigation Manifold and cranked it back up cussing.

Where do ya Moonlight at?
Decent restaraunts are getting scarce, and a drive to Holland from here ain't but 35 Min.

If ya need veggies, or berrys for your Sauces and such, drop me a PM.

Also, I gotta wonder if ya beat me to it or not. Been tinkering with a Blueberry Mustard for about a year now to sell during the annual Blueberry festival in South Haven.

Are you running trickle tape for water in the garden or just sprinklers?
Trickle tape cane be run off of a gravity system all day when you aren't there, and then the tank can be refilled in the evening when electricity rates are lower, and then run the sprinkler for a foliar watering and some catch up.

Just suggesting.

Best of luck with the Sauce gig!!!!

Shit, you got more rain then we did.  I watched as it came across, and was hoping and praying that finally we got some good rain.  I swear my house has some vex on it as to the north and south you could see the rain.  We got some rain, enough to dampen the ground but nothing what I was expecting.

S-28 I will def be sending you a pm, I moonlight for a catering company here in Holland.  A friend of mine from my going out all night to the bar days Chef Jerome.  I have been trying to supplement my income in all sorts of ways since I left Haworth in December.  I have no where near the plants some guys do as these are all in my backyard and side yard.  Well pretty much the whole back yard lol.

Seems getting a job as a Systems Engineer here in Holland/GR are few and far between.  Oh and I use cypress mulch for my ground cover.  I live in an association so I have to make it look somewhat respectable lol.

Neluf,

Head over to entergy.com  There are a bunch of openings at Palisades in many different fields and good pay.

Beats Hayworth

That Cypress mulch ain't cheap!!!

I don't reckon the neighborhood nazi's would like the image of a plastic drum in your garden/backyard either.

Try Michigan Orchard supply for Trickle tape and pvc fittings on a flex trunk line for a garden hose adaptor. That might pass casual observation by the HOA as it sits low in the grass.
