This is an old story, and most of these stories are much more dramatic, but my chapter was written today and I'm still pissed about it.
This evening while driving home from work I witnessed a gentleman in his 30's run into the street and throw something on the pavement. I then saw this same gentleman run back to the sidewalk and proceed to pummel a woman who was presumably his wife / girlfriend. The female dropped to the ground and the beating continued. Traffic slowed, I was stuck in the wrong lane, so I made a turn to take me around the block while calling 911. The 911 call was handled worse than a pizza shop on dollar night. The call was robo answered, robo transferred and put on hold for minutes which seemed like an eternity. By the time I made the loop, the couple was gone and I abandoned the call. Several minutes later a 911 operator called me back and that call was then dropped. I never had a chance to report what I saw. I had no intention of getting in the fray, but did have concern for the woman and a desire for the thug to be locked up. The lesson I was reminded of was that the police are unable to protect us and have abandoned that as any kind of primary role. The police will more likely be there when the event is over and will make a report. I don't begrudge the police. The courts and the system let the bad players out time and time again. This community won't fund a new jail and sentences served are a joke. So, we all have to take care of ourselves and if the circumstances arise, use force to protect ouselves and our families. If confronted by a bad player I prefer to have the advantage. Like Schwarzkopf said, if you are going to use force use overwhelming force. I'm no boxer, so 9mm. .45 or even .380 will have to suffice. I have no idea what happened to the woman, but hopefully the gentleman has gotten a dose of his own by now. Karma is funny that way. That's why I carry. |

Cincinnati, the area I was travelling through has gone Section 8 over the last 10 years or so. What part of Cincinnati? likely east side of 75, bounded by downtown to the south, maybe Cincy State College to north ? Over the Rhine (spelling?) ? Yeah, got send down thee for work last year. I didn't stick around the neighborhood after being done for the day and before going to my hotel. About 3:00 the second day, as I was finishing up in the third floor office, I heard a loud BANG. I knew better, but told myself it was probably a backfire, untill it was followed by BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG. It was a scene right out of a movie. I couldn't see ground zero, but I could see the stree emptying out fast and people scattering every which way. I has taken CCW training, but was dicking around about getting the appointment with the Sheriff to get the license. I called them firt thing on Monday. It left an impression. |

I actually just had an incident occur to/with my girlfriend (when I wasn't present).
She was in Athens with a car full of her friends, and this "gentlemen" in a large/raised pickup (think: white trashish) was driving extremely hostile behind them, honking his horn, flashing his light, etc etc. They come to an intersection waiting to make a right turn, and my girlfriend gave him the finger. So the assbag gets out of his truck, comes stomping up to their window and starts beating on it, saying something about "Do you have something to say to me?" My GF is a mere 5'3"ish, and I'm 6'3", if I was there I would have ripped off his arms wookie style, then beaten him with them, but alas I wasn't there. I realize that she helped instigate the situation, but it's a large dude vs a relatively small female.... |

Almost ten years ago there was a shooting in the little bedroom town I live in. A young kid named Levi murdered a man going out to get the Saturday morning paper about a half a block from where the final shootout took place. This picture was taken at the store where the Levi was finally stopped. The picture shows the impact of one of the rounds fired by police and it is still there today. Apparently Levi was hopped up on Meth and took quite a few shots before he was stopped. I visit the store nearly every day and sometimes when I wonder why I carry, I just look at the cracked corner of the window when I toss my trash into the container below. The cracked window helps me see clearly why I carry. Even in small town USA violence can happen in the most unlikely of places and without much warning. Below is a link to one of the better articles I could find, the lower section has more details. Here is a brief quote from the site: The young man shot Olson at least two times with the shotgun, killing him instantly, and continued on, calmly reloading the pump-action shotgun as he went. His next confrontation was with deputies and officers of the sheriff's office and Jefferson Police Department. Ridenour responded to police orders to drop his weapon by pumping three rapid-fire shots into a cruiser. When K-9 Cero attacked, grabbing Ridenour's arm, he responded by shooting the dog in the chest.

8 minutes? The incident at Ft. Hood occurred over 4 minutes and the police were right outside? Right outside, and they still took four minutes to get there. Cleveland laid off 250 cops in '04. Less police+more crime=longer wait those guys have either been hired back or have been replaced between 06-08 from my understanding. They are planning on hiring at least 250 in the next two years as well. Those guys sure do stay busy though..... |
| I live in an area of Columbus and have lived here almost 50 years and it's sad because when I moved here it was a super nice area and had everything I was looking for but now I can only be Thankful that my children have statred there lives away from this area and don't let there children attend Columbus schools, This whole area has gone down the drain and that is why I got my CCP and I guess You could say I'm to old to move but I'm not to old to protect myself.. I listen to the police scanner on Cleveland.com sometimes, and weekends in the summer are crazy. The hotter the weather, the crazier people seem to get. |
