If you are in the vicinity of Chicago and Michigan ave, State. or North Ave. Beach for a night out, watch your back. Large group of 'youths' will text each other and coordinate an attack on unsuspecting tourists or locals. They tend to mull around the McDonalds on state. 2 tourists were recently attacked at North avenue Beach and thrown in the water. They also flash mob the stores on Michigan and loot the stores. The city of chicago was keeping this quiet, but its getting more and more frequent. It centers around State and chicago, but it can happen anywhere. They record the event sometimes on their cell phone.

Odd scenario here that is popping up in my mind. Let's say that an upstanding citizen decides to take his wife for an anniversary dinner downtown. Even though there is no CCW laws, this citizen decides to carry anyway, just to be on the safe side. (As the adage goes, it's better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it) The man and his wife have heard about random attacks near the Mag Mile, but they are not going to let some thugs dictate where they can and can't go, especially in an area that SHOULD BE SAFE. Odds are 99.999% that they will be safe, right?. Upon leaving the establishment where they had there anniversary dinner, the couple decides to go for a walk. It's a nice night. As they are walking down the street, the man notices a group of punks on the opposite side of the street, gazing in their direction. The man doesn't think too much about it though, as he is in a good mood and focused on enjoying the evening with his wife of 12 years. As they're walking, they don't hear the commotion behind them as there attackers are creeping up, trying to be stealthy. All of a sudden the man feels a crushing blow to the side of his head. the man is knocked off balance, but not to the ground. He turns around to see his wife get punched in the face by some little fuck. There are 3 of the little fucks there, and they look eerily familiar, like the little punks that he saw 5 mins ago. His wife goes crashing down. Another punk is in his face with a knife, demanding his wallet. The man then pulls out his little Kimber and fires two shots, killing the knife wielding attacker. The other 2 run off into the night. Can you imagine the shitstorm this would start if it happened? I know my mind is racing, but the above scenario is a possibility. It would be Hale DeMar all over again, to the 10th power. Both the antis and the pro2A folks would use this event to further their sides ideology. That is what happened with DeMar. I hate to say it, the above scenario is POSSIBLY what our CCW battle needs. Wilmette eventually did away with that stupid handgun law, and DeMar never paid the fine because the case was dropped. He emerged victorious, even though he was a victim. Maybe IL would do away with having no CCW after a prominent case supporting CCW comes to light. Or maybe it would garner those 6 additional votes we needed to pass HB148. |

It is a serious post, not really meant for sarcasm, but whatever... And no, I'm not the vigilante type. All I did was paint a possible scenario. Hanging out in front of a state street Mickey D's while packing, waiting for some group of little hoodlums to accost me so I can shoot them in order to prove a point is not my idea of a fun Friday night. Or any night. |
If these dirtbags are caught after wilding, I hope they are arrested and prosecuted for mob action. I would like to see some of these clowns mess up and attack an off duty police officer. Maybe CPD and St. Louis PD need to start setting out decoys with back up teams to address the issue. It may not be politically correct to enforce the law though.

The "not politically correct" line is absolute BS. Cops would love nothing more than to bust these dirtbags.
Those alleging it are basically saying that because these are African-American kids going crazy, the law won't be enforced. I don't think lack of prosecution of African American teens is a rare thing in the USA. 
Now, if you're a politically connected white kid, you can probably get away with manslaughter.

| I think there should be a pen built just like they have in arizona. Make them wear pink underwear and let them stay in tents. To put a single police officer as a decoy is asking for trouble. Many youths, up to 100 were reported to wild and one officer against 100 would either be a limited shoot out (fear of the officer for his life) or severe injury to the officer with the possibility of his weapon being stolen. You got to round them up like cattle and throw them in the pen. |

Now that I think about it, I would rather not see the police involved. If some dirtbags jump some innocent citizen on the street, I would like to see the neighborhood jump the little turds and beat them with mop handles until they crap their pants. Then the neighborhood could disappear back into the landscape and the little gang bangers would think twice before trying this type of nonsense again.
The tax payers are taking way too much crap from the tax eaters and I believe eventually the tax payers will start to push back. |

It's absolutely true that situational awareness won't prevent a violent confrontation, as the Jared Loughner case in Arizona proved. A criminal who has planned his attack and is able to ambush his victim is difficult to prepare for. However, good situational awareness is much better than a lack thereof.
An individual who's head is on a swivel is less likely to a victim than someone who is obviously oblivious to their surroundings. |
| A mob can easily overpower an individual or a pair of people. It will probably happen so fast you will not have time to think. That is what the wilding groups count on, numbers and surprise. CCW may scare the heck out of the mob, and the "bang" may send them running because of confusion (was one of the mob shooting or did the victim shoot?), but once they see that you are out of ammo, ......the situation changes. Also, if you shoot an attacker, you may have to defend yourself in court, against an "innocent" person who was shot just "minding his own business". |

Being able to protect yourself, or in this state the lack of, baffles me.
No CCW, no pepper spray, mace, stun guns, knives, tasers. All are considered concealed weapons and therefore illegal. How the hell is anyone suppose to be able to protect themselves. . As some are fond of saying, "Don't go into areas where there is crime". Everywhere you look there is crime. Be aware of your surroundings, ok, if you spot some impending danger, what are you suppose to do? Yell, scream like a school girl, and maybe pee your pants, doubt if that would help. Don't count on the police, they are miles away. Don't go anywhere alone. Sometimes you don't have a choice but to go somewhere alone. No matter what you do criminals will find a way of getting to you. And you have no legal way of protecting yourself. If you do get hold of a weapon and use it, the criminal will sue you for infringing on his rights. Is this a screwed state or what! |

Nice place, but Milwaukee runs right through and it's close enough to Humboldt Park to get some travelers. Sorry to say this, but Logan Square is anything but safe. The local police station is one of the most eventfull stations in chicago on the north side. Its right next to the very busy 25th..

The ones reported or documented are listed. Just remember, vehicle hijacking is just undocumented procurement of a vehicle....(dont you love democrat-speak?) |

Northwestern University > Emergency > Campus Advisory Attempted Robbery On Saturday June 4, 2011, at approximately 8:26 p.m., a male not affiliated with Northwestern was the victim of an attempted robbery in Chicago. The victim had parked his motor scooter on the north side of Chicago Avenue across from Wieboldt Hall (300 block) when approximately 15 to 20 male African Americans, all approximately 16 to 20 years old, approached him. One of the subjects threw a baseball at the face of the victim and knocked him to the ground. Several others from the group punched and hit him several times. The victim tried to protect himself and fought back. The subjects eventually fled eastbound toward the lake. Chicago Police and Northwestern University Police responded, and Chicago Police later arrested three members believed to be part of the group on mob action charges. The victim was treated on the scene by Chicago Fire Department paramedics. No proceeds were taken from the victim. The victim could not provide descriptions of the multiple subjects involved. University Police remind all community members to use caution when traveling, especially at night. Report suspicious activities immediately to the University Police or Chicago Police by dialing 911 or by utilizing a Blue Light Emergency Telephone. You can also contact the Northwestern University Police Department by dialing (312) 503-3456. Use caution when traveling, report suspicious activities, use blue lights.
Use to be criminals had to watch what they were doing, now its the law abiding citizens who have to be careful. Can't go to the store or take an evening walk without the worry of being attacked. Luckily I live in a rural community and don't have the worries they have in Chicago, but it could very well happen here too. Do we need a better reason to have CCW in this state? Looks like they found at least a few of them: Tribune article Teen mobs suspected in downtown assaults One man was smoking a cigar Saturday night on a bench in the Streeterville neighborhood when his evening was interrupted by a group of young men who robbed and beat him. Another man was parking his motor scooter outside Northwestern University's downtown campus when the same group apparently made him their next victim, police said. Police believe the group of about 15 to 20 youths in their mid- to late teens also was responsible for two more attacks moments later along the lakefront. Funny to do a G search for "mob action" and get this story along with a number of official CPD denials that any such action was occurring.  Just like the ISP insisting that guns are useless to prevent violent attacks and pose more of a threat to the public at large from theft. |

Somehow I don't think that this would really have any effect. A lot of these kids are coming from the ghetto, and many of them are going to grow up to be dreaded criminals involved in narcotics, robbery, pimping, murder etc. A majority of them are a good portion of the way there. It starts with the parents. My mom used to teach in Englewood back in the 90's for several years. You'd be blown away by the stories she would tell me of parents coming in all f##ked up for parent teacher conferences. |
