Anyone know a good company in Las Vegas that sells or installs security bars?
I am looking for someone that either sells them or installs a very plain looking window security bars, and the cheaper the better. I don't post much, but I'm having a hard time finding a place that sells them, and a good friend of mine was burglarized over the weekend. All they got away with was one handgun, but they had his 300lbs safe halfway down his stairs when he got home. Thanks to anyone that can lend some assistance. Also if anyone know of any city ordinance that forbids them, let me know. I live with in Las Vegas city limits, but I have no HOA. |

any welding shop should be able to make them... but i've seen various levels of quality and durability. also various releases inside so you can escape out the window if the house is on fire.
if cost wasn't a major concern, i'd suggest the Rouladen rolling shutters. i wish i could afford those here, and i'm NOT in the 'hood. sorry, don't know any specific vendors. |

NVcarbine,
A friend of mine lost his beautiful 20 year daughter in a house fire about 20 years ago. He had bars on the windows and they HAD inside releases on the first floor. The fire started on the first floor where his daughter was sleeping and she couldn’t get out because of where the fire started. When she tried to open the inside releases on one of the windows with the bars they were RUSTED SHUT! That is where she died and her charred body was found….. By the window with bars intact. The father was on the second floor and he couldn’t get down the stairs because of the fire downstairs. When he tried to get out of a second floor window the bars on the windows had no inside releases. He finally tried to get out a small bathroom window (over the bathtub) that had bars on it with no releases. He managed to push the bars out somewhat but he couldn’t get through the small window. The fire downstairs was so intense that he filled the bathtub with water to soothe his feet. The fire boiled the water in the tub and gave him second and third degree burns almost to his knees. PLEASE, make sure that if you do get bars on your windows and doors and they have quality inside releases and check them at least once a month. Bars can keep bad people out, but they can also keep good people in. I just wanted to post my personal experience with those things. Maybe E22CAPT or Scot45 can give you some insight on the pros and cons of security bars. Hope this helps. Be Safe. Joe |
| I would go with the big dog over the bars on the window. Nothing deters crooks more than a big mean sounding dog. My dad used to raise bull mastiffs and someone broke into his house through his back door and the went out through the kitchen window (having jumped through the glass). They didn't take anything, but did leave behind a shoe and part of their pants. |

Joe has a great point, over the years I have been on several house fires where the occupants have been trapped inside. By and large, bars on windows are not difficult for us to remove and can be removed (ground floor, no ladder needed) in just a few seconds....however, that is ironically about the same amount of time it takes to die of smoke inhalation or thermal exposure. There are pro and cons I suppose, no bars on my house FWIW. I will try a better response in the morning. |
