| I currently live near Milwaukee, WI. I have been presented with an opportunity to relocate with a company near Pinehurst, NC. Does anybobody have any info on Pinehurst or the surrounding area? How is the area to live in cost wise? What is the crime rate like? What is the housing in the area like? I did cost of living comparison and Pinehurst has 29% higher cost of living than Milwaukee. |

Milwaukee area was just a temp stop for me in the grand scheme of things, unfortunately, the puzzle pieces are not fitting together with my current employer to relocate me in the near future. Don't get me wrong, Milwaukee area is ok, but I was born and raised in small town Pennsylvania and I am ready to move back to the small town life. |
Pinehurst proper is an expensive place to live. It's flooded with wealthy (or people who USED to be wealthy) golf loving retirees. Tons of "Yankees" as we natives like to say.
If you are a golf fanatic (and if you were you wouldn't have to ask about Pinehurst) its a nice place to live with tons of golf courses in the area. 1. Have a job before moving. Not just an offer, a signed sealed deal. Not a lot of work in the area, and even the healthcare ( which is big in that area) industry is cutting back. 2. Be prepared to live with a ton of "not from here" types. Not necessarily bad people, just older retirees and the usual baggage that entails. 3. NC is, like a lot of other places, way over developed these days. Turning liberal. Taxes being raised almost on a monthly basis. Be prepared to deal with it. |
