Fleet Farm had some of the new American Eagle XM193 sitting on the shelf. Think it was about $8/box. Wouldn't buy cases worth, but it's nice to see it's showing up again. ETA: <Edited.........no free plugs for that dealer......dpmmn> has true XM193 on stripper clips, $419 for a 900 round case. |
Yup, FF has the "black" and "brown cardboard" boxes. $8 a box... Personally, I don't see all the fuss about XM193. I have 10 boxes of the stuff from a few years back. (bought 20 for $4/box back then) But, to each their own. |

I personally think it's a step backwards for the American Eagle stuff. I was speaking with my favorite in at Federal the other day, and we were talking about this new Lake City stuff. He wasn't impressed by the quality of the brass, and the accuracy of XM193 is "combat accurate" whereas AE223 is much better. I have a 16" rifle that shoots better than MOA with a simple red dot, using AE223. Nothing special about the rifle either. XM193 is reliable because it's sealed, but for anything except Zombie Invasion ammo, there are much better products out there for less money. |

I've shot a lot of the AE 50gr FBHP and it generally is laser-like in my ARs. The XM193 is more fun to shoot -- it feels "hotter." Still shoots to POA (around an inch) in my super-heavy 16" DMPS. I like to have a "stash" of mags loaded with it for any kind of zombie situation. |
| Is XM193 the Best? Is it the most accurate? NOPE ! I just wanted some. I have AE 55gr. fmjbt @$3.75/box (1000 rds.) that shoots wonderful for me. I have WWB 40 rd. value packs 55gr. fmj @ $7.--/box(1500 rds.) that shoots great for me. I have Q3131 @$5.49/box (1000 rds.) that shoots great for me. I just wanted some XM193 to stash away. No big deal. |
Ahhh... the days when a box of ammo was cheaper than the cost of a Happy Meal. Now we get to suffer through $8-$10/box for new stuff. (when you can get it!!!) I got 5K of brass and bullets that need my attention this summer. (and 16lbs of W748) Reloading never looked so good. [I too have 1000 rds of zombie ammo stashed away ... ] |
The price is $8.99/box, like I said earlier in the thread. The reason the ammo is always messed up is because when Mr. Goober picks up a box of ammo, tears it open to see what the shells look like, and then decides he doesn't want it, he puts it back in the wrong spot. (Usually they do this WHILE the associate is standing there, talking to them about the ammo.) Also, sometimes the ammo goes out in the evening and the tags aren't made until the morning. It would take a dedicated full-time position to keep the ammo constantly straight in our store. Edit to add: it is a legitimate gripe, though. Just wanted to explain why it's like that. |
Everything except guns and ATVs and boats. You do get hefty discounts on used guns after they've sat for a while and on new guns a few times a year during "employee appreciation events." Really, it's worth it just for the ammo. Bought 500rds of Wolf 9mm for $6/box OTD a couple weeks back. But be prepared to work retail. |
If you get a Gander Mastercard, you will get postcards in the mail several times a year for discounts between 10-30% off, plus 5% back in Gander cash. |
