Gentlemen,

I've an SGC AR15 in .223 (1 in 8 Twist Barrel) and am considering a .22LR conversion system.  Anyone offer any sensible comments/advice or suggestions?

Have you considered a dedicated .22 upper?

In short, these conversion kits do not work as well as dedicated upper for the obivous reason associated with conversion kits & calibre differential.

Lots to read on the AR15 pistol & rimfire section where some of the US guys have done exhaustive back to back testing.

What type of shooting are you ging to do with a .22" conversion ? Hunting, or target plinking at less than 50 yds ?

Cheers

The big problem with these drop in kits, is that the twist rate on your .223 is waaaaay too fast for a .22 long rifle bullet. Unless you are prepared to stick to 25 yards shooting, and are happy with "loose " groups, then save your money for a dedicated upper. The drop ins were designed purely to allow cheap practise in a fullbore for cadets, soldiers etc, so they could use a familiar gun.

no more than 25yd plinking with iron sights.  I've the obligatory 10/22 that one holes with remarkable repetition.  I have already owned a V22 which was ok but ammo fussy to say the least.  I'll add that the conversion kits are significantly cheaper than a dedicated upper and that was the real appeal

At those gallery rifle type ranges, the conversion kits  accuracy will probably do.
I guess its a case of making sure it will fit your straight pull upper.
I'd have a word with Bradders.
He has walked the path of knowing what goes with what & what does not work.
Best get it right first time rather than pee about with trial & error & then being stuck with a conversion kit
that may take time to sell on here in UK, if at all.

Cheers
