I found this in Rimfire and Pistol Calibers:

.22 LR penetration tests

The thread is here:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=15&t=444916

We have all heard the stories of shooting rabbits at absurd ranges with a .22, this has to make you wonder. It certainly opened my eyes, I don't think I will have been the only one on here to have put .22 bullets into pieces of wood and been surprised by the mess it makes. This article has made me look at the .22 with considerably more respect than previously.

Interesting article
Funny how people often refer to the 22lr in the same breath as an air rifle.

I would suggest that a discussion on the lethality of a .22LR not be discussed on a open forum in the UK.  You can probably guess why.

Haven't you got some Polaris missiles to polish or something

Nothing about being PC.  Saw this on another board today:

I just had a visit from my FLO for my renew and everything went smoothly so I am OK for the next 05 years.

At the end of the meeting we were chatting casually and he started to talk about a fellow shooter on his beat who's F.A.C. have been revoked because of a "domestic incident."

Of course I am not privi to more details.

What got me to post this thread is the fact that this officer said his department managed to get a court order to obtain all electronic communications by this person in the past 05 years. The intention is to build a case that he has a violent streak in him. He then said this person have been posting liberally on various shooting forums stating how much he enjoyed bashing deers, fox and rabbits.

Knowing we live in a P.C. society these days and knowing what I know now, I will be very careful about my posting from now on.

This can happen to any one of us and they are using posting dating back 05 years to do a charactor assisination ......................

I feel sorry for this individaul who ever he is.

We just have to watch our backs now ................................BIG brother is watching

Hardly a great secret....... practically every 13 year old in the country has a "Gangsta Wapper" CD with some reference to "smokin' homies wit ma twetty two gat pow pow pow".......If CSI Vegas is to be believed, half of Arizona have succumbed to the mighty .22.

The anti's would ban spud guns if they could. Bollocks to em

I understand your concerns on this issue. Although this is a US site and the report on the tests was also on a US site, the extent of surveillance now means that we all have reason to be nervous. We have previous experience of the classic dictator's ploy,  it would be a gift to Gordon Brown if he could find an issue to blow out of proportion to divert attention away from the expenses scandal and the economy. "Guns is bad, shock, horror, ban etc" is always one that will get the red top tabloid trash on side.

My FAC renewal is due next year.........

as for pc I have seen far worse stuff on 4x4 sites than on here, trust me this place is tame and well managed

I know just what you mean. This is why I always go for HPBT match spuds as opposed to expanding ones.

You might be onto something there. A pentration test of Kerrs Pinks vs King Edwards and the "especially dangerous" Section 5 Maris Piper could be the basis of a PhD thesis.

Discussing lethality of rounds is a moot point in my opinion if you are a hunter as some here are. But I understand your concerns and we are better for knowing them.

Also quoted to me recently by a licensing officer...." the majority of FACs being revoked are due to marital disharmony" ie messy divorce etc

Cheers
Taffy

So true, club member went off with a younger bit of totty, wife made made certain allegations to the police, and it was goodbye FAC and goodbye guns.  IIRC he had moved them to dealer but it still didn't stop them being seized

Hell hath no fury etc

I stored a load of gun, rifles and ammo for a guy in just this situation. He went to work, mother-in-law phoned police saying "my son-in-law has threatened my daughter, and he has guns".
Police helicopter followed him home, and armed response were waiting for him in his street. Guns seized (placed into storage with me) and he spent a couple of nights in the cells whilst the wife stripped the house of her stuff.

What she didn't know was that her husband taped all calls automatically for his business and she used his office line to call her mother and they gloated over what they had done. Police still took a couple of months to give him his FAC back and never did anything to her about false accusations.

Then they made up. But he suspected they were going to try something again so lodged the guns with me again. Wife called police and made claims that he had actually threatened her with a gun and again they came round and asked for them. Imagine the wife's shock when they all found out I had had them for several weeks. Wife was threatened with being charged with wasting police time, but still not for making false accusation.

He finally divorced her and got his guns back after about a year.

Hell hath no fury like an angry Italian woman and her mother.

I read somewhere about a  new ballistic mayonaise with parsley and onions specially made for testing the penetration of King Edwards. Anyone know a good recipe load for 350 grain KE's?
