Hey guys,

I've got a Colt A2 1/9 HBAR upper in the EE that is not selling. I am considering keeping it and converting it to a .22 upper. I am looking for suggestions on buying a conversion kit and what kind of accuracy I can expect from a 20" 1/9 HBAR.

Thanks

Spikes Tactical makes a conversion kit that I will probably be looking into when $ permits. Click HERE

I have the kit, it's a lot of fun.
Accuracy is what it is.  Lots of variables.
Depends on the wind...etc...
Overall, for punching holes, it's a lot cheaper.
AIM had mags for about 19 bucks and you'll
want to get a couple.

I have a Spikes Tactical dedicated .22 upper. I enjoy punching paper with it and love the trigger time it gives. As for accuracy, I normally shoot iron sights at 50 yards at an 8" target with a bipod. I have no problem with putting a .22lr in that area and I'm perfectly happy with that and really could not ask for more.

Just bought the CMMG .22 conversion from Palmetto State Armory for 169.95 each and they come with three 26 rounds mags.  Great deal.  We shoot a lot more now with our ARs.  Accuracy is good enough for the steel shooting that we do out of our 16" Stags with 1/9 twist .

Sounds like the fun factor is there for sure. I'm still a little worried about the accuracy though.

Thanks for the tips.

What is your concern with accuracy? Are you going to be hunting with it? Or are you just punching paper and just looking to get some practice?

I'm not a 1 ragged hole shooter but it's no fun shooting 4"-8" groups at 50 yards either.

What is the twist rate of a standard 22 lr barrel?

+1 on the CMMG conversion.  I like mine for practice, but it's not for competition or hunting.  I suggest using jacketed ammo too.

There's a whole section of the AR15 forum dedicated to Rimfire and Pistol Caliber AR15s...

Yeah, I forgot about that. I'll head over there and take a peek.
