Well, here we go again. Spring is approaching quickly. The first match of the season at Thunder Valley Rifle Club is happening. It is the .308 Challenge. All you .308 shooters come out and have a good time. Date: Saturday March 24,2007 Registration Time: 7:00-9:30 am Safety Meeting: 9:30-10:00 am Practice Day: Friday,March 23 Time: 12:00-6:00 pm Match Fees: $60 for agg match and $20 for steel. Total is $80.00 for the match. The shooter must shoot both to win the .308 Challenge. If there is a tie we will shoot a tie breaker. Tie breaker 5 shots at 5 clay birds at 1000yds, most broken wins. Link to Thunder Valley Rifle Club:www.ohio1000yd.com Format: Two 600 yd targets Two 1000 yd targets Ten Steel targets as follows: 100-10 points 200-10 300-10 400-15 500-15 600-20 700-20 1000-25 1050-25 1100-50 That makes a total of 200 points possible. We think the steel match should be fun. Each shooter shall have 10 minutes to make 10 shots on 10 targets. All eyes are on one shooter. Each shooter shoots from the same position. This is a .308 Winchester only match. Shooters can bring other rifles to shoot the course. Any other caliber will be in an "open" class. Cost is the same as the .308 match. | I wanted to provide (the very little) information that I know about this event. I got to go out to Thunder Valley and "play" two weeks ago and had a blast. I got help learning how to use the adjustments on the scope and got dialed in out to 1000 yards (but I also learned that loads that group really well at 100 may not do so well at longer distance - which was my case) Most of the guns that I saw at the range were more "tactical style" rifles but most were shooting off of benchrests. Anyway, I wish that I was ready for this match but I've got some reloading to figure out for my rifle. |

Hey Scott, I'm shooting a Savage Model 10 LE2B (26" barrel and McMillan stock). I'm shooting handloads, currently working with Lapua Brass, Varget Powder, CCI BR2 primers and 175 SMK's. I've just got to find the sweet spot. My glass is a Leupold Mark 4, 4.5x14 power with a 20 MOA base. My only problem is finding a range close by that will let me get out past 100 yards. |
If you don't, you should frequent some of the tactical websites, ie Snipershide.com, WestCoastTactical.com etc. Lots of great advice/load data over there. Scott |

I'm sorry I didn't get back any sooner,I had business to tend.
The "Home of the Ohio 1000 Yard Benchrest Club" may be the confusing part.The name of place is Thunder Valley Rifle Club. You can make this a benchrest match if you want.You're the shooter.I didn't say it was or it wasn't.It is just the .308 Challenge.I'm going for prone with a bipod and rear sand bag. I may even shoot in the open class with a new rifle doing some load development. VAN |
