Some people hate the poly lowers but I picked mine up for $30 new and couldnt pass it up. It saves 7 ounces and on this build it brings the total weight unloaded to 6.5lbs. This is my yote rifle now and its a tack driver. The light weight makes it a dream to huff when there is deep snow.

I decided to start a build this year, but haven't had the cash yet because my wife's car went to rusted out beater heaven and I had to buy her newer wheels.

All I have is a forged lower, but I plan on building a 6.8 SPC, since I already have two 5.56's.

Looking for a part time job to subsidize my 'got a new gun' fetish

My focus is on fishing gear right now.  Got a new fishing Kayak Sunday too.  I could put up pics of it after I do some mods :)

Whatd ya Get???!

I have 40 years in canoes and now about 40 minutes in a kayak!  So I am no expert but I bought it for fishing and wanted portable.  I found a company called Crow Wing Kayaks.  I could go on and on about why I liked them but I do and the damn price was great.  I got their Pro Angler Plus 1080.  9' long and weighs 49 pounds.  I took out on the South Fork of the Flambeau (our backyard) and it was a natural for me.

First mod will be a Pelican case for Glocks :).  I saw an anchor guy line rig for $50 that basically allows you to move your an hot point the length of the boat.  I can make my own with extra parts in my shop.  Rope, D-ring and 2 small pulleys.

To the OP, let us know if its ok to be a build and kayak thread!  I am going to add a shotgun mount to the kayak.

I did not specify AR or even gun build, so really anything is fair game

Less drama, more pics, I get it.

Here is a build I did a few days ago.  We just moved and and are smokerless so I converted a classic weber grill into a smoker.  Personally I prefer this to a bullet style where the meat sits over the heat.  There is an old fridge out back I will get to later but for now this works.

Grill with 3 pieces of 5x7 aluminum flashing hanging down, each is just bent over the top

View from top.  Notice two sections of grill missing at bottom of pic

Now you see grill over fire.  Flashing is offset 1/3 of grill for heat, 2/3's for meat.  Flashing acts as a baffle and helps hold fire to one side of grill.

Now you see why you cut away a couple pieces of the grill (if the one you bought does not have this feature or is not big enough for cowboy charcoal or lump wood chunks, which is what I prefer to use.  When you want to add more heat or smoke you just drop in the charcoal or wood.  It is very easy to keep a low temp fire going this way and you do not have to lift the grill/meat to do it.  You need something to move charcoal and fire around that fits between the grill.  A knife, skewer, garden shovel, hori-hori knife etc...

Self explanatory but for those who don't get it, smoke.  All vents top and bottom are closed, I went and did yard work, we have a ton of turkey sliced in the fridge for sandwiches.  Yeah, no pics of finished bird but you can see him.  It was dry rubbed with homemade hot pepper powder, garlic powder and some Zatarains
