I know this has been answered because I've read the answer before lol.  I cant remember though...so I'm sorry to you put you guys through this again.

If I wanted to build an sbr do I need a pre ban lower?  If I used a muzzle brake, no bayo lug, and pinned stock, would it still need to be a pre ban, or would a post ban lower and a tax stamp be fine?

Thanks guys.

Post-ban SBR's are fine.

You just have to abide by the normal AWB rules.

Yep you can do a post-ban SBR but need to comply with the AWB.

(in before someone reminds us that a SBR with a barrel under 12" is also a pistol so you need a preban lower for that)

DAMNT!  Thats what I was thinking....I knew there was a reason I thought I remembered that a preban lower was needed to do something like a 10.5" barrel.
SO in order to do a barrel 10.5" I would need a preban lower?  Just so I'm sure...?

Weren't you going to attach a brake?  Most are designed to add 1.5".

BR, what configuration are you thinking?

I'm thinking of doing another SBR, but on a post-ban this time.   I'm looking at the "Kino" configuration from
BCM.   It's a 12.5" with mid-length handguards and front sight, but carbine gas.

An 11.5 with a pinned battle comp or similar would be over 12inches
a 10.5 would require a longer muzzle device but would be doable.

For shits and giggles you could pin a 6 inch fake can to a 7.5 legally but that would rival the aids cannon

If you want to use a Suppresor and be able to use your adjusting stock get the preban

If you can live with never using a Suppresor on it ( You could pin a Suppresor mount brake but use may or may not be legal in state )and either a fixed or pinned stock get the postban

The difference is $100 postban lower or a $600+ preban lower.

That sounds pretty cool Dan, I'll look into that.

I was contemplating an mk18 mod 1 clone though, to be the little brother of my m4a1 block II clone.

I actually have a battlecomp 1.5 on one of my 14.5" barrels and I'm just passed 16"....

The only downfall of going postban would be the fact that I would never be able to suppress it.
My plans were to only suppress an mk12 clone though, so not too big of a deal

EDIT: Just watched that video lol funny stuff there!
So why do you need to have a pre ban lower if your going less than 12"?
Wouldn't you only need a pistol permit?

sounds like someone is making an AIDSCANNON.....

ETA, according to SFLU, you can use a can on a postban rifle, as long as you use a QD brake/comp to attach the can

ETA again, if your making an aidscannon, it technically falls outside of the AWB, so you could use a FH....

He's using a 10.5" barrel so it would be classified as a pistol.  AIDSCannon has a 12.x barrel and no stock.

If I pin the comp / break which is 3" on it will be over 12." Do you need an sbr lower for said aids cannon

If you don't put a stock on it then it's not an SBR.
If you pin a muzzle device on it for more than 12" total barrel length then it's not a pistol.
––- you could permanently attach a flash hider to get over 12" too, because they are legal on postban "firearms" that are neither pistols/rifles

Example:
7.5" barrel with a 5.6" flash hider permanently installed would be 12.1" and therefore not a pistol.   No stock?  Therefore not a rifle.
Voila!   Aidscannon.
