I have had my CCW for just over 3 months now and I just purchased my first gun while having it.  I live in Miami FL and we have county laws that govern over federal laws.  (Where you have a cooling down period of 5 working days to pick up a long gun or a pistol)  I went to pick up my new Colt and the guy charges me the $5 for a background check.  I thought that was one of the perks of having a CCW, was not having to go through that background check and paying the $5.  Its not the money by no means I was just under the impression of that was how things worked.

can someone straiten me out on this?

Miami sucks, Leave as soon as you can.

Sounds like Miami requires a BG check on all firearms sales??????

Background checks are done even if you have a CCW.  FL has its own background check system done by FDLE, I know some states dont reuqire it if you have a CCW.

Standerd practice in Broward and Palm Beach counties as well. You still have the check but dont have to wait to take the gun home.

A few years back if you had A CWL you didn't need a BG check,But since then they have lowered the cost and changed the rules.The only perk I am aware of is no waiting period,Unless your county or city has its own requirements.

ok...the CWP is so you can leave the same day with that weapon, but the background check is still required for all transactions

having a permit only gets you around the waiting period. You can have a CCW , then commit a felony. Just having it doesn't mean it's valid.

I come from another state just north and you do not have to do that.  I just thought that was one of the perks of the CCW.  No biggie, its only $5.  Just did not sound right to me thats all.

Everybody! Gets a BG check in FL. Even Cops, Cops have to wait 3 days on handguns as well unless they have a CWP. Only exception to the BG check is if you are buying an NFA weapon, then a BG check isn't required.

When I picked up my NFA guns the dealers always did the Background check. It was two different dealers.
