As long as the bullet(s) don't leave your property you should be good to go but... your neighbors will most likely bitch unless you're shooting suppressed.

IIRC You have to be 300ft from the closest house and firing into a safe backstop.

Then in my county there is a noise ordinance that they can use to shut you down even if you meet the other requirements so they got you going and coming.

First, neither Countys nor Citys have any authority to regulate in firearms in any manner.

Thre is no 300 foot rule in Chapter 790 whatsoever.   Further, look up the AG opinion,, written by now Governer Crist on this very subject wherein Brevard County tried to pass restrictive firearms discharge regulations.   To the best of my recall that opinion came out in either '02 or '03.....(I could well be off on those dates, tho).   In summary, he thumbsdowned the proposals.   Deltona also had the same matter before them and found out that they lacked such authority.

As I said, pull up the AG opinions page........I believe you're legal to do as you describe...I'll look around and see if I can find the copy I ran of the op. and re post if I can...

I pulled it up from the AGs website.   The opinion # is 2005-40 and it was addressed to Sheriff Raymond of Indian River county.  Basically IRC wanted to closely regulate hunting and gun discharge...

It provides as I said that there is no authority of either Citys or Countys to regulate any further than provided in general law.   The opinion addressed to Indian River even discussed the 300 yard rule and the resulting opinion stated in part "Local governments have no authority to regulate firearms in any manner.  Attempts to circumvent this preemption of firearm regulation have not been allowed.  Thus, despite the county's concerns for the health, safety and welfare of its citizens, it may NOT enact an ordinance regulating the use of firearms......"

Bottom line is that you might get hassled, but you would be within your legal rights.

Believe I'd copy and keep that opinion handy tho.   Hope this helped.

I guess we file the 300 yard rule next to the three step rule.

This is what insurance is for. Get your money's worth from your insurance carrier, build your range, do your shooting, and sleep well at night. Neighbors will bitch though unless you shoot suppressed, but then again, what a great reason for buying a .22.

in your mind what would a sufficent range be a good backstop and some sort of 4 sided enclosure with a window to shoot out of should kill a decent amount of the sound correct.

even some egg crates on the walls

Y'know, I recall seeing a design in a shooting mag years ago that a fellow cobbled together to muffle the sound of his practicing.   He basically built a  2X4 framework that'd hold about 10 to 15 standard automotive tires each abuting the other in line off his shooting bench to his target backstop.   He, as I recall, had the rifle he was using situated so that the muzzle was just inside the first of the tire assembly.   I've never tried it, but  it'd be about the same thing as a 2 plus foot wide, 8 to ten foot long silencer!!!   Legal too!!!

The guy built it for the same problem situation described hereon.....Hell, might even throw one together myself as my place is getting too crowded to shoot much anymore.

it seems that over the past month its insane.

your either waiting or your constanly having to watch out for a muzzle not  being pointed your way or someone running onto the range

update on this i got to talk to a local leo and he said im good to go and i now have a 15 ft tall backstop 9 feet wide made out of tires filled with sand.

only thing now is muzzle noise someone said take about 8 tires and screw them together in a tube fashion and set them in front of your bench and shoot through them like a tube.

i was also thinking about buying some steel culvert piping about 100 -150 feet and burying it
have an underground shooting range and shouldnt cost that much.

Just make sure you have good ventilation with the air current blowing away from you or you can get lead poisoning.
