Most of the outfitter are about a two hour drive from Jeff. Generally, I prefer the upper stretches, which are closer to you. Weekdays are better than weekends. http://www.nps.gov/ozar/ http://www.nps.gov/ozar/planyourvisit/canoe2.htm http://www.currentrivercanoe.com/ http://www.current-river.com/ http://www.silverarrowcanoe.com/ http://www.jadwincanoe.com/ |
I went to the NRO Campgrounds a year or so ago. Didn't get to float cause the river was too far up due to rain north of us. As far as campground, it was retarded. If you're into drunken 14 year olds and rap music blaring at 24/7 then you're good to go. I almost knocked this kid out. I'm pretty sure he was 18.

These folks are my neighbors. Located 1.5 hours South of JC. It's not crowded on this stretch of river. Easy floating and the fishing is normally very good. Our farm borders the campground/resort property (My family actually built the resort in the 1930's), so if you would like to get together for an informal range session, that could be arranged. |
| Since i live in Salem, I vote for the Current river. I am on it alot. I go on a 4-5 day float/camping trip every summer and am doing a 3 day float in two weeks. Not too fond of the upper current... i usually put in at pulltite and go from there... the upper has alot of shallows and debris. The mid to lower part is alot deeper and wider... |

I would recommend the Current river. You can come about 1 hour south of Rolla. You can put in there and have any number of options for lengths of the float. Beautiful area, a chance to see wild horses, and some beautiful water with small mouth bass and other fish.

Arfcom float? I'm so IN. I hate canoers so I am out. People in canoes seem to not understand that the faster a motor boat is going the less wave it is making. lunyou No motor boats are allowed in the Ozark Scenic Riverways portion of the Current RIver. Frankly, that's one of the things that makes it such an enjoyable river. ETA: OPPS! I'm wrong. See below .. . . |

There are motor size restrictions but motor boats are allowed. http://www.nps.gov/ozar/planyourvisit/horsepower.htm |
