hey everyone,

i was browsing uppers on the rock river arms site and noticed that the barrels had the option of coming in either chrome lined or chrome-moly.  what's the difference and is it worth the extra $40?

Chrome is less accurate (marginally), but doubles barrel life.

This says it in a nut shell

Therefore, a chrome lined barrels is often used more as a work/CQB/SHTF barrel, not as a match/target/competition barrel

If you are looking for best accuracy don't go with the chrome lined.

If you plan on doing much rapid firing - especially bump firing - or expect to put tens of thousands of rounds through your AR, get a chromed lined barrel.

The rust thing is pretty much a non issue for non military use. Get 3 Bore Snakes, soak the last inch or so of one in CLP or similar, and when your done for the day give it a pull through the bore. Put your gun away and forget about it till the next time out. Before shooting, run the dry one through once and you're good to go.
