Ok so all you blue line walkers....
How often do you write / see write ups for loud exhaust on motorcycles? I'm asking because I have noticed an obscene amount of bikers out and about this summer with pipes that rival cannon fire. They rip down the street at 10pm when my little guys are asleep and I feel like I'm about ready to start laying spike strips in the road. Just wondering why I never see them pulled over for something that is clearly over the decibel limit in a residential area and the 5.0 routinely jams up cars for it (usually for something else I know) Just looking for an answer. Thanks dudes |
| When I lived in hellmira the assholes would ride down main street in low gear revving the piss outta them at all hours of the night. I never saw one pulled over. Import guys would get nabbed all the time. Of course most the local pd were members of the loud cool bike club. |

Traffic court judges wanted tickets to include decibel meter reading and I wasn't trained in it's use. They used to write them here on Long Island whenever they wanted to break up a local "bike night" gathering. |
| It's a nearly impossible statute to enforce because as already mentioned you have to be certified on the device you're using, and the reading has to be taken at a specific distance from a specific angle. I kmow it sucks and I wasn't to fond of it when I lived in NYC, but LEO's have a limited amount of time to spend on what is best an equipment and administrative violation. |
| While I'd love to hear about tickets for loud exhaust, many of the bikers I see on the road could get tickets for reckless driving and general duchebaggery. I've been passed at a red light by an idiot going down the shoulder of the road on Main St in Pittsford. |

You know what they say. If it's to loud your to old.
But to put in perspective the older Harley riders were treated like this when they were young. I think it's a generational thing. I ride a Z1000 and it is very quiet but that doesn't mean I can't do a stand up wheelie at 80. So who am I to say |

No need for spike strips.
An 87 million candlepower light will work. A few years back I had a similar situation with the neighbors drag racing their Ninja, so at about 9:45 pm I helped light the way for them. They musta thought it was a lightning bolt cause they shut the bike off, quietly dismounted and pushed it home. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Have you called the cops to complain? At least in my area they'd set up for a few days to quiet things down. It's a district in Buffalo. ... they aren't doing anything that doesn't involve drugs or violent/ domestic crime. I even have relatives in the district. And comparing these fools to high caps, not gonna agree on that. These ass holes are being obnoxious, not just cruising. Reving your shit up at 10pm and going 90 in a 35.... that's just plain asinine. I like the bikes... just hate the dipshits driving like pricks. |

That's one advantage to moving to the burbs, almost no motorcycles. Although I rode for years I also had a stock exhaust and did not go up and down the street revving my engine at 1 am like a retarded monkey. At my old house some guy was just revving a motorcycle engine-he started at about 10 pm and at midnight I started walking around following the sound. I found the guy with a bike up on a milk stand in an open garage just revving the fuck out of the engine, apparently thinking that was necessary to fix it or something. I stood there watching him for awhile and finally decided that I was probably going to beat him to death so I just turned around and left.

I usually leave a note on the tank that says something like "Now that I know where you live, if you come down the block power shifting at 10 grand at midnight again, I'm going to padlock 10 feet of anchor chain to both your wheels or loosen the nuts to both axles - I haven't decided which one yet". That usually slows em down |

11. No person shall operate a motorcycle on any highway which is: (1) not equipped with a muffler to prevent excessive or unusual noise; (2) equipped with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed or altered; (3) equipped with an exhaust device without internal baffles, known as "straight pipes"; or (4) equipped with an exhaust system that has been modified in a manner that will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle above that emitted by the exhaust system originally installed on the vehicle. |

I just heard two judges out in the sticks bitching about loud snowmobile exhaust tickets and saying they were going to just start throwing them out because the only agency still writing them (sheriff) did not have a decibel meter. I don't know why but the DEC went from harassing the shit out of the local yahoos to pulling back their forces. Might be there were too many complaints about lost business from restaurants and bars. (Not saying DEC does not deal w/SM enforcement, they do, but it is not a primary responsibility). In many counties Parks and the Sheriffs do the majority of the organized sled work, since they have access to the funding sources. I believe there are new sections or regulations for sled exhaust that are enforceable for this season, I guess we'll see how that shakes out.... |

See how that works eta - I don't ride but did not normally write them, not because they didn't deserve it but because, as previously expressed, the courts dismiss them. |

Apples and Oranges but used by the enemy just the same, trust me...I've heard it from the fine folks in Tompkins County. We generally get three types of shooting complaints, outside of hunting season: "They're shooting too near my house" "It's dark and someone is shooting nearby". Usually just a pop or two, but it results in a call to Brown Rd to check the area "Loud explosions". I had to explain to my coworkers what Tannerite is when we started getting these calls |
