so i'm just curious as to what everyones take is (and also what you're running now, maybe vs what you've run previously) on the various high end optics. mainly i'm curious as to what everyone thinks about the eotech, aimpoint and trij acogs. and yes, i'm valuing y'alls opinions more highly than over in the optics section

yeah i think so....considering s&b and us optics don't even mean anything to me  thanks for the offer, i might have to take you up on it sometime. i've currently got an eotech (that i haven't even tested yet) and thinking about getting an aimpoint. *edit* edited thread title to more accurately reflect what i'm asking

I currently run an eothingy and can not say I am totally happy with it, but it works well enough for a high speed mall ninja like me. I like the bigger reticle in it over the small aimpoint dot. The Eothingy has a very short battery life, I hate that. I also hate the off/on/adjustment switches it has, I would prefer a single knob like the aimpoint has. I like the look of the trijicon TriPower, but have not got to finger one yet. I am thinking about trying a NXS 1-4 next. You will find this is a very personal topic as to what we all like/dislike. Just because I (or anybody else) don't like one, don't mean you would not love it. I say you need to try as many as you can before you make a purchase. |

I went to the range with two identical rifles except one had an EOTech and one an Aimpoint. I also had a shot timer and Allen-PSI to run the timer. I ran drills where I'd put two shots on an IDPA target at 25-yards and then two hits on steel at 75-yards. I started the drills from low ready and high ready. Consistently I was MUCH faster with an Aimpoint. When using the EOThingy my eye would switch focus from the target to the busy EOThingy reticle and I'd lose time refocusing on the target. This might be because I am left-eye dominant but shoot right handed. Doesn't matter why. The fact was I was faster with an Aimpoint. I also like the Aimpoint's much longer battery life. But both are excellent. I also have an ACOG TA-01 that I've decided I'm going to sell. It is not fast at CQB distance and I am starting to think all my ARs should be short, CQB guns. That said, I can easily get hits out to 300-yards with irons and my Aimpoints. I want an Aimpoint on everything. Allen-PSI runs a S&B Shortdot. At $3K it better wipe my ass and load my mags. It is a great optic but I just don't think it is best for me. The extremely low battery life makes it not attractive to me at all. Mark |
| I will say that I love the Eotech with its big fuzzy circle dot reticle. I just can't stand their reliability. They've got quirks about them I hate like auto turn off and shitty battery life. I've had mine fail on multiple occasions while hog hunting and I would have to dick with it to get it going again. My rationale was that if its gonna fail while I'm hog hunting......whats it gonna do if I'm in a fight.......so I bit the bullet and sold them all and went to different optics. Mostly Aimpoints for their die hard reliability. |

oh here's another thought that just popped into my head, what's everyone think of the c-more red dot sights? i got one recently as part of a package deal in an ar but based on the fact that the red dot can be easily seen from the other side, don't see me using it except maybe at the range. speaking of which, does that also apply to the aimpoints? i recall seeing a killflash accessory being sold for them. |

I like my eotech, but haven't had it long. I wanted a cqb optic and liked the reticle better than the single dot on the aimpoint. My perception was that it would be quicker up close b/c there's more to see. I haven't timed myself like bookhound though. I sure I would be much slower, regardless of the optic Battery Life: I have the AA model which has a battery life of 1000 hrs. I believe the N batteries are 200 hrs. They do have auto shutoff, but it's either 4 hrs or 8hrs, depending on which button you use to turn it on. Low battery indicator: The reticle is suppose to blink for a few seconds when you first turn it on if the battery only has 20% remaining. I'm still on my first set of batteries though. I don't know the specs on all the aimpoints, but a few of there models if left on constantly, the battery won't die for something like 5 yrs. It's something ridiculus like that. So if you want extremely long battery life, then go w/ the aimpoint. I would suggest putting in some time w/ your eotech to see how you end up liking it, before buying another optic. Try to shoot an aimpoint and acog as well, to see what YOU like the best. OR if funds allow, just get one of each

Tijicon has a couple you may want to look at as well. The tripower is pretty neat b/c it is always on w/ trijicon and you can brighten it up by using th battery. They also make a reflex sight, similar to the cmore that takes no batteries b/c it uses the trijicon. |

I love the EOTech for non magnified precision type shooting - I have found the 1 MOA dot to be very accurate out to 400 yards. If your eyes are used to the Aimpoint center dot the EO's dual reticle will slow you down when you are doing anything fast. The simple center dot reticle on the Aimpoint is fast and easy. It is basically idiot proof, but it needs a ring mount. The EO has a built in mounting system.
That 4 MOA dot is HUGE! Talk about a speedy little optic, when is the 2 MOA set to hit the streets. I think the Micro has a built in mount

I'm running a AA EoTech and am pretty happy with it. I have not had any battery issues and it's never conked out on me. The CQB optic I want to see is the Leupold tactical prismatic. I've been really happy with their scopes. For all around use on a carbine (not CQB) I think the VXIII 1.5x5 is hard to beat in terms of having the most versatility and value for the $. |
