Friend of mine wants to get this model. Its a .223/12 guage combo. Anyone have any experience with this model? Also he is concerned that he wouldn't be able to go hunting with it. Are there any laws that state combo rifle/ shotgun's are not allowed?

I suspect you could buy a new one for the auction price. Remington may offer one in their "Spartain" line. Savage has made the Modle 24 for decades in all sorts of combinations, they ARE well made and in the same price range. There shouldn't be any issue hunting with one in a "Shotgun only" area so long as you're not carrying rifle ammo, however a good portion of the State is allowing centerfire rifles for Deer now. |

The crossfire was a big flop from a few years back. Kinda falls under the heading of "just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should." IIRC the "not having rifle ammo with you" doesn't cut it legal wise for combo guns in shotgun only areas/seasons. Well there is the issue of not carrying buck or ball shotgun ammo afield that could be linked with not carrying rifle ammo. As with most interactions with NY law, it just depends.

I believe in regards to the rifle, the law specifically makes mention of the rifle, not the ammunition. The fact that it's a club without it is irrelevant in the eyes of this silly state. I'd looked into it a bit some years back and realized I'd been... bending the law without realizing it.
Though the site's languished for many years (originally it was just a store front portal for an existing forum) Savage combo guns was one of my "things". |
