A friend of mine was charged with domestic violence 3 years ago but was convicted of disorderly conduct. Can he purchase a gun legally in ohio? Can he get a CCW 3 years after the incident?

Thanks in advance.

Was it a felony or a misdemeanor conviction?  If it's his only conviction he should be able to have it expunged.

The domestic violence conviction makes him ineligible to purchase any firearm that has been in interstate commerce.  i.e., Federal ban.

If he has the DV sealed, he may be able to have the disability removed.  He should hire an attorney to do this for him.

if you go over to OFCC's website, i think they've got a list of "firearms-savvy" attorneys, that you can search for in your area.

The lack of reading comprehension in this thread is stunning.

OP: according to what you posted, your friend was convicted of "disorderly conduct," which is generally a minor misdemeanor, not much worse than a traffic ticket.  The original charge doesn't matter.  A disorderly conduct conviction should not be an impediment to anything.

But he was arrested for domestic violence. I know of a person who was ARRESTED for domestic violence,
but when they went to court, the charges were dropped to disorderly conduct. This person went to buy a gun a
few years later only to be told a "delay" was issued by NICS. So, i guess either have his record expunged through
an attorney or just try to buy a gun and see what happens. ––just my opinion––

Thats what happend to him but he tried to buy a gun 3-4 months after and was denied. He has not tried since and its been 5 years. He has been talking about shooting again recently, so he should just fill out the paperwork and see what happens.
