SC or Kalifornicateland????   MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I'm going to have to go with SC on that one.

Charleston is the best

SC isn't going to fall into the ocean from all the earthquakes.

SC doesn't have Hollyweird.

SC doesn't have a permanent AW ban and bullshit restrictions on all things related to firearms.

Occupied territory, or Free America?  That's an easy decision.

We'll be moving to Camden, SC in about a month.  If my orders had said Kali, I wouldn't have reenlisted to accept the assignment....with only 3 yrs until retirement, I would have left the military and gone reserve ANYWHERE else to get my 20.

1. Very gun friendly state.
2. Good weather.
3. Greenville has one of the strongest economies in the country.
4. If you like the outdoors, this is a great state.
5. Greenville is just a 2 hour drive from Atlanta and Charlotte.

Guitar Center in Charleston???  Woohoo!!!!!!

The Charleston area is growing.  It's a pretty decent place to live.  Lots of touristy stuff to do and play with, almost like taking a vacation within driving distance of home.  A lot of colonial/revolutionary war/civil war history.

I'm not familiar with Greenville, but you would be closer to the mountains there.

The publik ejukayshun sistim leaves a bit to be desired.  Private schools (mostly church-run) and home schooling are BIG in SC.  The most common form of child abuse in the state is sending kids to public schools.

The gun stuff is obvious. The only reason for Cali is family (which after this weekend might consider moving to upstate NY). From what I'm told SC is hot and humid in the summer, not much more so than IN or NY. If I move out there is there anything that is going to "surprise me", being a transplant?

Searching alot of things, Charleston is looking good. Nice selection of resturaunts.
What are your recommendations for Mexican, Italian and Chinese food, gun stores, grocery stores, and apartments? Good rental areas? After I know where the store will be, I can look around there.

Charleston is a great town, but be advised that it's the heat and humidity capital of the world in the summer.

Liver pudding maybe?  Basically caseless sausage.

It does get very hot and humid here.  I was born in Myrtle Beach...yes for real...and have learned to deal with the quirks.  I have lived in Murrells Inlet, various spots on NC, PA and OH.  Went to school in Spartanburg and Columbia.  College football is a religion here.  Be prepared to choose between the Gamecocks and Clemson...GO COCKS!  Am back in MB and enjoy it.  I used to want to leave here so badly.  But now I wouldn't trade it for the world.  We are deep in our heritage - some would say stubborn.  But I like it that way.  Winters are mostly mild, hurricanes are a reason to party.

ETA:  add info about liver mush

Wow, that could be enough to convince me to move south of the border when I'm done with school.  Compared to growing up in a Big Ten state, Carolina football sucks!!!  Everyone seems to go nuts over that game where you bounce the ball.  Still can't figure out which end of the hockey stick you're supposed to play that with.

Grew up on a island out of Charleston. Now live at the beach below Chas. Great place but the heat and humidity will take awhile to get use to..very gun friendly we need somemore black rifle people here.

I saw a piece on TV about it last year.

Basically, after slaughtering the hog you take everything that isn't considered meat and puree it, adding some spices for effect.  I pointed some out to my wife in the grocery store and she almost hit me.

Just spent 9 days on Isle of Palms.  I love Charleston and the area for all the reasons mentioned.  I coudl see us moving there, but my one concern is how does a Yankee not on vacation fit in?  Are there any issues?  and don't get me wrong, i totally respect southern history, heritage, values.

Reasons to join us patriots in SC -

1. Class 3!!!!!!!!!!
2. Expanding CCW. Good now and getting better.
3. Close to mtns (well, big hills anyway) , close to ocean.
4. GOT to be near lowest cost of living in the nation
5.  Gov. Mark Sanford (I pray to God in heaven he'll be our next president)
6.  Decent climate, gets a little hot, never too cold.
7. Decent business climate (especially the Greenville area)
8. Conservative people
9. Good selection of churches.
10. Many rural areas

Bad points -

1. Terrible school system. Like 49 out of 50.
2. No open carry.
3. Can't think of anything else

I move here from Commieneticut.

The only time we have problems with "yankees" is when they come down here and think we are a bunch of dumb southerners because of our dialect or because we talk slow or walk slow. We are just good folks trying to enjoy life and be friendly with everyone. Come on down man we would like to have you!

I was born & raised in northern Pennsylvania.

I have no problems locally (Charleston area).  Common sense goes a long way, like it's bad form to move into someone else's neighborhood and try to make it like the place you just left (If the old 'hood was so great, why leave?).

After living down here a number of years and studying history outside of the publik skool sistim, I have come to see myself as a Reconstructed Yankee.  I probably would have been thrown in jail by Abe Lincoln's thought police.

Seriously, living here has made me realize what a paternalistic, controlling state government I grew up under.  Example: fireworks.  Fireworks that go boom were illegal when I lived in PA.  Why?  Because we needed to be protected from ourselves.  It was for our own good.  Without the .gov to protect us the hospitals would be overflowing with fingerless, one-eyed children.

However, the observed reality here in SC is that when Independence Day and New Years come around virtually every neighborhood sounds like a war zone and we don't have mass carnage with blood flowing in the streets.

Living in SC has turned me into an uppity citizen, and that's a good thing.

Connecticut Yankee here, and I'm doing just fine.

Yankee money spends as well as anyone elses.

Truth be told, Yankees are just as snobbish, prolly more so.

Yes - you really should try and attend a football game this fall.  My stepdad, who has no interest in football, LOVES going to see the Gamecocks play.  I am class of '99...Spurrier is our new coach - so that alone is reason enough  If you are up for a road trip I highly recommend it.

Well, we've signed on to stay in Indiana for another year at least. I am going to come out to Charleston for a vacation though. I will keep it on the back burner. I appreciate all the help from everyone. At least I still won't be going back to California.

Hey no offense taken!  We are the best losing fans in the history of football.  Most of us never claim to be great at football.  Heck..I was there in the "era"of Fat Brad.  Alas...a head coach he is not.

UT, FL, etc...WAY better than we are...for now

C'mon guys...a girl can dream!!!
