I live in the shicagoland area and am having a tough time getting 22lr  ammo (I know theres a shortage).  I used to pick up boxes of federal at walmart, but now I hear they stop ordering.  Should I stop looking at walmart?

GAT had plenty .22lr as well as Mega Sports.  I didn't look at the price since I didn't need any.  You could call and ask what they have.

The Cabela's in Hammond and the Bass Pro in Portage have been consistently getting .22lr. Running about 5-7 cents a round.

I pass the Cabela's going to and from work, so I check every so often.

Not sure where you are, but Hammond is not too far of a drive.

No problem.

If you want I can give you a status report tomorrow after work. I'm due for a walk through Cabelas and their Gun Library.

If I can get time, I'll try to pick up as much .22 down here before I leave and bring it up next month.  No guarantees, I need to take care of our customers first.

Cabela's in Hoffman Estates has CCI Standard Velocity... $3.99/box of 50. Limit two boxes per customer.

They also had a ton of .223 and 7.62, no limit, but way more expensive than it used to be.

Lots of .45ACP and .40S&W, but 9mm is wiped out.

They have primers, but a one box limit. One pound limit on powder, but no powder available.

Stopped by Bass Pro in Gurnee the next day. They have a healthy, overpriced supply of everything you don't want or need. They're out of everything else.

Sorry to report that today Cabela's had no stock on .22lr. Just about everything else though. Shelves were pretty full. Tons of 223/556 running around 8.99-9.99 for boxes of 20. Also had Mosins on sale for $129.00
Plenty of shotgun supplies targets, shells etc.

Also stopped a the Gander in Merrillville and they too were zero stock on 22lr. They did have 100 round boxes of Winchester white box .40 for $49 and 9mm for $39 and lots of 223/556 for $.60/round.

Keep your eye on Cabela's website.  Unless they changed the rules you have to call customer service if you want to ship ammo to your IL residence, but if you live close enough to an out-of-state store, you can just order online, select ship-to-store and pick the ammo up there.  As a bonus, there's no shipping charge if you do that, just the local sales tax.  I've done that quite a bit with the store in Richfield, WI since my job occasionally takes me in that direction.
