a flat, SAFE, legal place to shoot 1,000 yards. Dead end road, across a lake, across a rice field. Down a powerline, i dont care. Between say. . . Benton and south east missouri.

I had a Remington 700 VLS in 308 and ended up selling it cause I realized I had nowhere to shoot it in NWA. Good luck on the search.

I can shoot well over 1000ms on my private property in NWA, which is 2.45 hours away from LR. Real pretty place to shoot, the firing line is in a  holler surrounded by mountains on both sides. Its near Huntsville.
1000m seperates the men from the boys, that's for sure. I've played at 10000m using a 7mm RSAUM but the glass just doesnt cut it, Ive never made a hit at !000m.

As soon as decide on some glass for the Barrett it's on. Feel free to hate.

10,000m?  Hmm. That is a purty fair piece of real estate to cross.

Feels like a search for the holy grail doesn't it.... I've been on the same quest for two years.... I can't find anything close, thought about taking out an advertisement about leasing a place.......

There has to be a place to do it, I know the guys that compete at Camp Robinson are practicing elsewhere.

So when we goin'?  Ive been to Huntsville a few times, nice area.  I would be happy to do the driving if we can get a couple of us to go up for a day to do some "real" shootin'......

That is a fun shoot, but their range is only around 300 to 350 yards.

Ok, so I went out to the farm today to put some rounds down range with the 6.8 SPC. The Target was a human silhouette with orange shooting clays taped over the head and center mass.  The purpose of this, is that it provides me with immediate feedback for hits.

I shot at the following distances:
I drove off the distances with the odometer on the truck and converted with the Iphone

.10 of a mile or 176 yards
.20 of a mile or 352 yards (scope needed 10 clicks of adjustment UP to be on target) at this distance from 176 yards.
The human sized target at 352 yards looks really small.  The bright orange skeet provided a good point of aim.
I hit the Orange skeet at both distances consistently. I feel this is the outer limits of distance to which I would ever take a shot.

All groups were under 3 inches.

Optic for the 6.8 was a Trijicon 3x9. I will say I like the scope, but the chevron reticule takes some getting used to a longer ranges.

I told you all that to say this........(If one of you is going to be shooting anything at 1000 yards I wanna see it). Not saying it cant be done.

What would you be shooting at (target) distance?
And what kind of Optic are you looking to use @ 1000 yards?

That long range game is an ART.

I'll be shooting 400-600 and calling to 1k..  Cowboy needs the thousand yard range.  Both be shooting ARs, his will just have a bigger hole. Then again, he already has a 2500 yard gun, and my next big gun buy is a 1700 yard gun.

The targets will be man sized cardboard and similar sized steel targets.  Both likely be shooting NF optics in the 10x max range.

Is that the uber light titanium can they're making?

That would be the heat for a long range gun.

It doesn't take much practice to make hits on static human sized targets out to 600yd.  As long as you know your gun and its limitations, utilize high quality match grade ammo, and know you come-ups.

If you want to see it done at 600yd, come on down to BCG this spring. I have never shot my own gun over 600yd because that is as far as the BCG range goes.

I have fired a Army issue M24 with the issued 10x Leupold at 800m with one shot hits on human sized falling targets. But the soldier i was with had already dialed in the scope and there was not much if any wind to speak of.  Although I was only 14yr old at the time.

I shoot a Remington M700 5R topped with a simple Nikon 4.5-14x40 w/ mil-dot reticle.  I either shoot black hills 168gr HPBT, Federal Gold Match 168gr HPBT, or some of my reloaded rounds that i am still working the bugs out of.

Edit:  Its been a while and I am not at home where I can reference it, but FWIW, I think my come-up at 600yd is 58 clicks.  That is with the gun being zeroed at 200.

You are correct Sir Coming in at a uber light 13.3 ounces.Originally they where only doing a thread on design called the (Sand Storm), but due to demand it is now offered additionally in a quick detach design called the (Quick Sand)
