Hey guys, I'm not to familiar with the gun laws here in Tennessee. I was wondering if you could clear a few things up for me. 1) I keep my rifle in my trunk; in a locked case 95% of the time. What are the "legal" ways of storing a rifle in your vehicle ? 2) A friend of mine is wanting to sell me one of his AR-15's and I was wondering what is the "legal" way of transfering this firearm? 3) edited for fear of embarrassment (lol) Sorry for the newb questions, but i couldn't make sense of the firearm laws on other sites. So maybe you guys can help me out. Thanks alot a head of time! -Mike |

damn, too late apparently... ;) (1) state law (i believe) requires firearm and ammunition to be stored in separate compartments of the vehicle. i would think if the rifle was in a locked case in your trunk, it should be fine as long as there is no ammo stored in the same locked case or compartment. but, if you get pulled over and searched, be prepared to offer a viable answer as to why you have the gun in the car (IE- went to the range earlier, etc). (2) if your friend also lives in tennessee, it is legal for you to purchase the AR from him with no paperwork, etc. if he/she is out of state, it will have to be sent to a dealer (check with the dealer BEFORE you have the rifle sent to them) to be transfered to you, have 4473 filed, NICS checked, etc. hope this helps! |
