I was born in Deposit NY in 48, In 73 I moved to Texas where I still live, I still have family that lives in that area of NY, Most are shooters and hunters, some own pistols and black rifles. I much prefer Texas weather, Yes it gets Hot in summer, but if we get snow it is a novelty. If it were not for the big cities keeping the gun grabbing politicians in office, You would not have the stupid gun laws that you have, The Sullivan that wrote the law that controls was considersd insane by some people. It has been a long time since I read about him, some of you may be able to shed some light on the subject.
Like most gun control laws it has not stopped any criminals from getting a pistol, they will steal one. The stupid AWban is just another chunk taken out of your 2a rights.
I have read many arguments about hi-cap mags in NY, I think that it would be very difficult for anyone to determine when the mags are made, None of the ones that I have are dated and some have no markings of any kind. I realize that is the law in NY but if the right people got together  I think that it could be repealed.
I realize that this is a long post, longer than I intended
I NOW LIVE IN A FREE STATE

Unfortunately the downstate mafia has gained control of the state government and shows no signs of relinquishing the reins. The upstate population is decreasing daily and those that are here are holding on by their fingernails. The only way I can see that any freedoms will become a NY'er is if they do what you did and move. I may get flamed for my outlook but I am reporting from the inside and it does not look all that good. The Gov has no intentions on pursuing any new legislation but as we all know we are only a headline away from a new AWB.

I think what you're saying is the truth. I don't see NY easing up on their gun laws and the only way to escape the state's control over the 2A is to move out of the state, at least that's my plan.

Move out of the state? Are you kidding me! Why...just because of high taxes, down state asshole politicians controlling everyone, poor job outlook, crap roads and weather, idiotic gun laws, and lousy education system........man, you are TOO easily dissuaded.

My wife floated the idea a few months ago of getting out of NY. Sell the house, pay off the mortgage and buy house with cash somewhere much cheaper and live with no mortgage. Crank out some school and get new jobs. I will pay 100K over the next ten years in property taxes. Everything in NY is insane cost of living wise. And honestly I do pretty well for a guy with an EMS job but getting the hell out of NY seems like aq better and better option every day.

That's what I told my wife.  I'm leaving NJ with or without you once I retire.

I'm outie 9000 in spring. Going to AZ.

I know there is no way I will ever be able to afford to live on my own here, the cost of living is so much lower in other states, and my pay won't be much if any lower. No bad weather, I can drive 30 minutes and be in the middle of nowhere, where I can shoot, hike, camp or whatever.

The sucky part will be no good pizza.

Get a pizza stone for your oven and learn to make it yourself.

Who'd have believed you'd have to import crappy ingrediants to "improve" the "quality" of a food item.

Only in NY.

When I was in Jacksonville, NC we went to a pizza place near Lejeune. It was good, I mean really good. We were surprised. We kept going back. We finally talked to the owner. He moved down to NC from Staten Island....

I remember the guy that started selling bottled NY water back in the 70's to sell out on the west coast.  Most people thought he was crazy.  Look at all the brands of purified tap water you have now.

Following that logic, you cannot make good sourdough bread here.
