Guys, help me settle an argument at work.  Is it or is it not legal to own a set of lockpick tools?  If not, what does the law say?

Legal, Im pretty sure the law doesnt specify lockpicks as being illegal. I would then assume they would be legal.

They are legal up until the point you are arrested on a burglary charge. Then they become "burglar tools" along with screwdrivers, pocket knives, crow bars, claw hammers, etc., etc., etc.

Meh, just like guns.  They're legal until you use them for an illegal purpose.

I found this on another site.  Can anyone verify its validity?

MO – MissouriMissouri Revised Statutes - Section 569.180.1 - Possession of burglar's tools.1. Possession of burglar's tools is a class D felony.

Sounds right.

If you have them it's not illegal. If you have them with intent , it's illegal .

"Bump keys" are more common than lock picks anymore.

Never heard of a bump key before,  I just googled it and watched a video of a guy opening a deadbolt faster than I can with a normal key.  I suppose I can stop wondering if I remembered to lock the door when I leave; it doesn't matter much anyway.

Locks only matter to the guy not wanting to destroy his lock/door.

I have a set of lock picks. not illegal. They are very handy where I work. I can usually open a master lock in about 2-5 min depending on how difficult the lock wants to be

Not from CT, a one-year banishment is more like it.  I'm from MS and will be moving to the Rolla area in a few weeks, and it looks like MO will be home for us.  Also, I didn't realize I hadn't posted yet.  Hey Y'all!
