Hello I will be going to the range this weekend with some friends. we were wondering what is the minimum age for children who want to learn? we will have a 9 yr. old with us and were curious if he was deemed old enough. |

It's not a matter of age really, but maturity. There really is no min. age for teaching children about gun or the shooting sport. There are things to consider. Are they mature enough and responsible enough. Have they been taught the basic shooting safety rules. Does the Range have any special rules about children (height, age, etc.). Can they properly hold the firearm (is it too big, long or heavy for them). I personally started my boys off with safety and shooting BB/soft air guns at 8. Bought and shot their first .22 rifle at 10. Now at 11 and 14, they are beginning to shoot .22 pistols and .38spl revolvers. There is no magical age (although some people said their kids came out of the womb shooting.....) Enjoy. |

thanks nighthawk! not my kid, just wanted to check if there were any regulations of age. he should be ok,a little immature but should be ok,with us right there with him. he may decide not to,we are shooting ar and 1911's. but we will try him out and see how it goes. thanks again! |

I started my son at 10, ruger single six 22lr. I found the single action was more forgiving in the learning, made him take each step taught him very good trigger control. He graduated to 22 mag, and took the GP100 for a spin a few times. My mistake was letting use my mini 14 he really enjoys the long guns now |
