Hey folks,
I have a piece of land on my cousins property just north of S.A. I was thinking about putting a small mobile home on there, 2/2, 800 sqft, maybe pre-owned for a reasonable price. Planning on using it for my stays back in TX. (3 month per year), while my cousin takes care of it, until we relocate to CONUS in a couple of years (might be 10 y. from now). We never owned a mobile home, anything I should look for? Ideas? Places to look for one? Thanks! |

Thanks for the input gentlemen!
Mike you a lucky guy living in Germany!
5-0, it sure has moments, I still miss TX. I've heard there are a lot of good deals to be had right now on foreclosures due to the recession.
SJ, I've been looking at some websites offering foreclosure homes. Some have pretty good deals. There is a big dealer towards Austin I want to check out. NOTHING depreciates faster than a brand-new mobile home.
Yes Sir. And cars... You put a license plate on a brand new car, oops it loses 20% of it's value. Look into a cabin instead
A cabin? OK.... I haven't thought about that option.. Rent when your home, save your money for your retirement
I'm only home for a couple of weeks, up to maybe 2-3 month per year. I'd like to put something on our land, so I can leave some shit there while we are gone. My cousin and his 83 guns would be the next door neighbor, so I feel pretty safe about my stuff. I already have the lot, the solution I'm looking for should be in the 10-15 grand range, that won't take too much away from my retirement. Plus I can sell the mobile home if I decide to get a bigger one or build one day... Thanks again. Stay safe ya'll. |

Why not look into one of these?
Cost may vary but I'd like to think it's a little more comfortable and stable than a mobile home. I've lived in a mobile home for a few years and it was a little unnerving in bad weather. |

There are some really nice travel trailers out there for cheep in this economy. Put a metal roof over it (car port like) $6k or less and it will increase the life of the trailer, and you have something to go out in. Increase the size of the metal shelter and you have a place for your car as well for not much more. Not mine, just an example of what's out there, don't even know if it's a good deal or not. http://houston.craigslist.org/rvs/2312472305.html |
