The job market in TN is great and the best part is cost of living is pretty cheap as well. I luck out a little more than others though because I live 1 mile from the KY border. I get the benefit of zero income tax + I get to shop at a cheaper sales tax rate so others might have a little different opinion than me.

Murfreesboro has a lot of low-paying jobs in service industries & a large construction industry. Not much PSD type work although you might be able to line some gigs up in Nashville which is only about 25 minutes away.

I lost my job Friday (company closed its Knoxville office), but I start a new (and better) one Monday.

And that's after turning down 2 other positions.

TN has no state income tax, so businesses seem to do pretty well here.

eta:
I do website/database work.

Just moved to the Memphis area.  Other than the high crime and lack of decent outdoor rifle ranges (that don't cost an arm and a leg), I like TN pretty well.  Gun laws could be improved a bit, but overall not too restrictive.

How could the gun laws be improved?  Carry where alcohol is sold, I guess.

Good choice in middle TN, it is the best place on earth IMHO.

The Boro is great!

You can work in Nashville or the Boro, quick commute on I-24 or 840, plentiful job market, nice folks, no state income tax, low cost of living, etc etc...

This is coming from a guy in god forsaken florida, can't wait to move back up to God's country

Just keep it a secret lol.

Howdy from a Smyrna resident! Smyrna is smack in the middle between Nashville and Murfreesboro.  I LOVE it here!!! I was born and raised in Miami, FL. The ocean and the food are the only two things I miss.

I see you were in security work... try Steven Cassidy at www.sgcgroup.com  Don't know if he's hiring, but he's here in MidTn and might know where you could get plugged in.  best of luck, and keep us updated!

Well get your dang butt down here and build your castle on that land, then invite me over!!  For what you could sell your place in Vegas for you could build a 4,000 sq ft place and put a couple hundred g's in the bank!  I'm begging my parents to do the same.  They still live in Miami and could build a house twice as nice for next to nothing up here.

I'm in the insurance industry and work with a few really good realtors (if you're looking to buy a house and leave your land sit) and can also recommend an excellent upscale builder if you choose to go that route.

Just let me know if I can be of any help to you.  I'm a geek for helpin' folks!

Take care,
James

Well for starters;

1. Allow non-CCW holders to travel with loaded firearms in their personally owned vehicles.  In CO, I traveled all over the state with a chambered G19 and an AR under my back seat, mag seated and unchambered.  Your vehicle should be considered an extension of your home.

2. Do away with the silly $.10 tax stamp per box of ammo.  How about opening up some more outdoor rifle ranges and charge residents $10/ year to support the ranges and TN wildlife.

3.  Do away with the thumb print required for firearms purchases.

Otherwise, I find the laws to be fairly decent.  Once you get out of the city (Memphis), the state is quite beautiful and peaceful.

4. Carry in state parks.

5. Carry loaded long guns with a handgun permit.

6. Secede from the Union and give out machine guns to everyone. okay, that one might be a tad extreme.

Not complaining, just answering the original question.

i would have gotten a lot more had i sold 2 years ago. but decided to wait. real estate market here has gotten real slow. the last number i heard of was that the vegas valley had 30,000 homes on the market. i'm a bit fortunate that i paid cash for my house well over 10 years ago. when we were in tn last summer we had looked at a centex home 3400 sf on a 1/4 acre fully upgraded for 210,000 dollars. i almost fell over because at that time someone could'nt even get into a 1200 sf condo here in vegas for that  amount of money. i have debated to move sooner rather than later but i make very good money on the detail that i'm on here.
anyway thanx again for the help and advise
