| Hey is there anybody in the jackson area that wouldn't mind helping me out with an install. I have a Magpul PRS that I would really like to put on but i really have no clue what to do. I would really just like for someone to show me how to do it so I can do it myself in the future. I think it would require a crown wrench, which i dont have, and havent had any luck finding one to buy. the closest I've come is McClanahans in Humbolt said they would order me one for like $60. Is that really the going rate or do you all think we got our wires crossed on the phone and were not talking about the same thing? |

At the risk of showing my ignorance (which I do quite regularly,) I am going to offer an uninformed opinion.
From looking at the Magpul Web site, I guess you have a replacement butt stock that you want to install. Also from the Magpul site, it looks like all you have to do is remove your existing stock, and if the existing stock is a rifle length stock, you slide the new Magpul PRS over the existing buffer tube, tighten down a few screws and you are done, but if your existing stock is on a carbine length buffer tube, you must remove the buffer tube and replace it with a rifle length buffer tube. I also am guessing that the "crown wrench" you are asking about is really a wrench for the castle nut, and if that's true, you must currently have a carbine length buffer tube that you want to remove. If any of that is correct, it should be a fairly easy job and I will show you how to change the buffer tube (but of course you need a rifle length buffer tube, spring, and buffer which do not come with the Magpul PRS.) BTW, a pretty good castle nut wrench is available from Brownells for $10.00 plus shipping. It's their part number 739-000-010 and is called "AR15 M4 Carbine Stock Wrench." In addition to handling castle nuts, it has a wrench socket (hole) that fits the screw extension on the rifle length buffer tube. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=16882&st=739-000-010&s=41045 Of course, there's always the possiblity that I don't have a clue what you really need. LMK if any of this is correct. I live near Jackson. |
