| if i legaly buy a gun in SC is it automaticaly registered to me? |
| There is no registration in SC. The only record is with the ATF and possibly SLED. Might be off on the SLED record too. I seem to think for Handguns there was a state form to fill out at one time. It's been a while since I did a handgun on paper. Someone else will be along to add more I'm sure. :) |

when you buy a firearm in SC you will be required to fill out a 4473. this form asks basic questions to prove you are legally able to own the firearm. answer the questions honestly. then, the dealer will do a NCIS background check by making a phone call using the information provided on the 4473 to determine if you are legally able to own the firearm. the call will either be an OK to buy, a delay, or a denial. if there is a delay, they have 3 days to either approve or deny, after which time it is automatically approved. the 4473 form you fill out, along with additional info the dealer will add, including information about the firearms bought, is stored at the dealers location. there is no firearm registeration in south carolina. edit: a mistake. |

If you have a current SC CWP, there is no need for them to do the NICS check, either. |
