some of the comments sound pretty good (as if they were from list members....or maybe just oppressed ny'ers) |

I seem to remember reading a James Wesley Rauls novel in which one of their "fortifications" was rudimentary cannons buried near choke points. Nothing wrong, or illegal about having a Cannon. discharging said in an unsafe manner/direction is unacceptable.....Besides noise ordnances, breaking your neighbors windows with sonic booms isn't going to get you on their Christmas card list.

Wouldn't he need to load the cannon with projectiles in order to be firing AT his neighbor's property?
The barrage, heard miles away, eventually led to an arrest and confiscation of the cannon, which apparently was firing charges but no cannon balls. So he was making some noise on his own property, which appears to be in a rural area. Oh the horror.

I think this afternoon I'll stroll down to the junk-yard and see if I can find and old Oxygen tank (welding, not portable 02) Seems they can be cut off, a ring hot-forged around the muzzle, and after removing the valve, a fitting made for fuse. GOEX "Cannon" is stocked at the Shop I associate with.

I wonder if it was a mountain howitzer? They are about the most common and affordable of repro cannons.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1841_Mountain_Howitzer Way back when I did Civil War re-enacting we over ran one and the yahoo manning the gun shot his revolver at the cannon's vent discharging it at us at point blank. A lot of the mountain howitzer guys were f-ing yahoos... http://www.buckstix.com/howitzer.htm |
