My club, Stoughton Conservation Club, is starting it's sight in clinic tomorrow, so that even members have to pay to use the outdoor range. Money maker for the club, and I don't have a problem with that.

So I finally get off my butt today cause and take my .50 hawken and 12ga "special purpose" shotgun I use for slugs to the range to verify the zero...no reason they should have changed, not bumped around or anything. Don't have to pay today.

First the slugger...first round in the lower right corner...hmmm....fire 2 more shots, where the hell they'd  go? Dig around for my screwdrivers in the range box....gone
I was going to go over to the 50 yard range and get it back on paper. Can't do anything w/o the screwdrivers, so that ones done for today.

Bring out the Hawken. 90 grains of pyrodex. Shooting a little low, fire a couple of more rounds just to get a group. Luckily the elevation screw can be turned easily if you press down on the sight. I'm not sure how how much the elevation changes with each turn, but as I found out, I only had like 7 lead balls left, TOTAL, and ran out before I could get it zeroed.

I just ordered a mold for the balls, and I'll keep an eye out for some bullets locally, although most place seem gear towards the in-line crowd with bullets and sabot round, not round ball

Have to wait til monday before I can go to the range "free" again. The fees start again next weekend, and all week leading up to the  opener.

Don't feel bad... I went to the range the other day to sight in my .270s. The first one is the .270 i have used for gun deer for the last 10ish years. Haven't made adjustment in years... All was good. The 2nd one was given to me and I had yet to shoot it. Well 5 rounds in and they were all over the map, hi, low, left, right or any combo of those. Now I was pretty sure it wasn't me because the first rifle went fine. Check all the screws and scope. I was confused. Figured it may just be me not used to the new gun and loaded up another round. I just got settled in and got tapped on the shoulder...

Another shooter to me: "Hey, you shouldn't rest the barrel on the gun rest like that, it can affect the round because of the vibration."

I faced palmed before he finished the sentence because I know better... Shot 10 more rounds just to get used to the trigger. All were good to go once I stopped resting the barrel on the gun rest...

I went to Twin City Rod & Gun club today and checked the zero on the AR-15. Lots of deer guns out for sight-in but I'm not a hunter so I couldn't identify 95% of the guns I saw (only way I knew they were deer guns was all the wood ).

Both mine are wood... but that was because my dad and I didn't know better at the time...
