I am going to get my chl instructors license here in a few months and I'm going to build a small outdoor range for the shooting portion of the class.
It will be a 3-4 lane range maybe 5. I'm looking to see what all the regs and laws are of opening a range I know I will need insurance. Any one already been threw this and would like to drop some info. Thanks |

I am not an insurance agent or work for one. I do not own a business and I am risk averse. I am a worker bee in a cube for a large company (risk not in job) I highly recommend that you investigate umbrella insurance that literally covers ANYTHING and is relatively cheap (I pay $140 a year for $1mil for no reason due to value). "Personal injury lawyers are making money by suing people. If you don’t have enough insurance you become personally liable.” Training firearms can have more risk than typing on a keyboard. Umbrella will cover beyond whatever you carry for range and if I taught people to shoot or owned a range I would call my agent immediately to add to my policy no matter what.

Texas CHL Instructor FAQ's
Go to #69, read from there. For your reference, I've included TX Gvmt Code 411.172-Eligibility TX Code 411.172 74. What are the specifications for gun ranges? I have applied to take the instructor's class, but meanwhile, I would like to start building/reno¬vating my range? Each range must be designed for at least a 15-yard shooting distance, as required by law. Additionally, each range must comply with all state codes and local government codes and ordinances. In addition, the owner of an outdoor shooting range must comply with the insurance requirement under §756.045, Texas Health and Safety Code. There are so many CHL instructors and ranges in this area, unless you're in a remote place, or just want to do it for the hell of it, almost doesn't seem worth the time, |
