It's because a teflon coated bullet can penetrate body armor and I guess that makes the law enforcement nervous.
I believe we have the same law here in NC.

Yeah, we do.

*Looks at copy of State Gun Laws*

2003 Revised version NC DoJ
Section IV, E:

"It is unlawful for any person to import, manufacture, possess, store, transport, sell, offer to sell, purchase, offer to purchase, deliver or give to another, or acquire any Teflon-Coated bullet."

Teflon has no magic powers and will not enable a handgun bullet to penetrate body armor.  It's more 'feel good legislation' from politicians who are ignorant on the subject.  All teflon may do is reduce the wear on your guns barrel.  Modern soft body armor is capable of stopping most pistol caliber rounds, and none of them will stop a centerfire rifle bullet, whether coated with teflon or not.

This is a carry over from the old KTW "cop killer" bullet, which was a teflon coated brass bullet. Yes, it's a misconception about the teflon. It's just what the media zeroed in on.

I did not know that!
Looks like I bought into the liberal propaganda.
All I know is that I had some older Ranger Talons I bought at a show about 6 years ago and someone told me they were illegal because they were teflon coated.

Well, I've always said they know they can't ban guns, so they'll get around to banning the bullet which will acheive their desired goal.

Get the spray on teflon and coat your bullets
