Years ago I was on an apprenticeship/college credit appraisal team for the American Council of Education. One of the members was the apprenticeship director for the maritime union. One night at dinner he said their apprentices were being trained with shotguns to "repel boarders". It was not too long after the USS Cole bombing in Yemen. I told him marksmen with M14s on the fantail and bow of the USS Cole would have prevented the bombing.
He said he agreed but said the merchant marine are very limited to what they can do. I'm glad to see some of these Somalis getting to see Davy Jones' locker. 
As far as pirates go, kill 'em all.
