I'm looking for input on where I should take a barrel to get it threaded? Yes, its a post ban AR barrel hat Thanks |
|
The best deal I've seen on barrel threading is EGW (scroll down to the bottom of the page). I also talked to Rob Sheperd about threading AR barrels (and explained EGW's pricing) and he thought he could be "in the ball park". Ed |
THough I have never had any barrel threading donw by EGW I have had them do 1911 work. Top notch and George is a stand up guy. Just not very local. |
| I have used Adco Firearms to thread my bushmaster varmint rifle. They did a good job. |
If you PULL the barrel, and it is OVER 1/2" where you want to thread it. email me, [email protected] I have him working on a couple other projects right now, but should be able to work you in. Pat Oregon Research Labs, LLC |
He's as close as your local Post Office. Remember, we're NOT sending a firearm, just a gun part so there's NO problem using the USPS. And while Roger (mygunsmith.com) is a fabulous local 'smith, he wants $130 to do the SAME thing!!!! For $100 I'll send it off to George... Ed |
Again fan of their work, just not shipping barrels. |
Just be aware everything is not 100%. I sent a Colt 1911 slide to him for new sights. He said just send the slide, not the whole gun. When it came back it looked good but I could not get the barrel bushing back in. The front sight came down so far into the slide it could no longer fit in. I took one of my Dremel tool stones and ground it down by hand, but was uneasy about the whole operation and still wonder if my front sight will pop off some day. This was still one of my better “gunsmithing” experiences. |
Are you referring to EGW or the other one listed? |
|
It was the Mygunsmith.com place. You used to be able to drop off at Gunbroker but I see they no longer do that. The main reason you don't see me running 1911s much is they won't run 100% and I can't find a decent gunsmith within driving distance to look at them. Even my Kimber is POS in the reliability department and was that way out of the box. |
That would be Aussi MIKE : AAA <[email protected]> Real NICE Guy. Pat |
Best Elvis voice "Thank you, thank you very much" |
So have I and I agree. Best thing was the two day turn around. |
|
Aussie MIke did my thread job for my PSS .308. Did it perfectly and did a great job. Did not have to pull my barrel off the receiver or anything else. Funny guy to talk too. he'll set cha straight..... He is making me some thread protectors also for my rifle. This rifle is the current home of my SAS .308 can that I just picked up from Pat so it shoots great with no issues also. |
How much did the thread job run you? |
|
He charged me $75 bucks and the thread protector is 35 bucks. Turn around was rather quick. He can pretty much thread anything you have. He did tell me he can't make thread adapters like TROS but then again to each his own. Give him a call.....and work it out......he's based out in Hillsboro but otherwise... |
