ok I have a spikes .22 upper with a YHM carbine length FF HG and a 10.5" barrel on it. the Barrel sticks out of the end of the HG by about 1.5"-2". I have a pilot on the end. I don't like the way it looks. I would like the end of the barrel to be inside the HG so when the pilot it on there youcan't see where they meet. the pilot fits inside with no clearance problems.
so my two options are to either, cut and rethead the barrel, or bet a longer HG. which would you do? I like having a longer barrel just for more accuracy so I am leaning toward replacing the HG. what are my options there? I am not looking to spend a fortune on the HG, remember this is a .22! does UTG make free float rails./ I haven't seen many links to that type of stuff so if you got some send them on! Will Middy's Fit? |

The one I linked you to is 20 slots.
A YHM mid-length handguard is 21 slots, 9.2 inches total length. So.....basic math puts that UTG one at 8.5 to 8.8 inches.....sorry. But that large base makes me want to say 9 inches. Ignore the picture...it's a carbine length stock photo...the product is middy. |

I voted to chop it and re-thread the barrel. It's a .22 SBR right, go short! Accuracy shouldn't decrease if you cut the barrel, although velocity will. Of course that's a good thing with suppressed .22's!
Currently how does high velocity ammo suppress in the 10.5" barrel? If it doesn't suppress that well (like in my 16"), it would if you cut the barrel to 5". That would look bad A$$ w/ the suprressor attached too. eta: cut/ re-thread should only cost ~ $100 too. |
