Let's get this thread to page 5 - and ownage!

DPS guys came out to the dam for an exercise and were using Desert Techs in 7.62, and they were the ones who turned originally turned me on to Prime ammo:

High angle down shot with offset - no issues.

ETA - Just at about 300 yards.

Ordered a case of Prime 6.5 CM and four more boxes of .260. The web site would not complete my order in Safari, IE or Chrome. So, I called to complete the order and the president of Prime, Jim, answers. He is flipping burgers for his kids while he takes my order. I tried to get him to let it wait until Monday, but he insisted. Then he can't get the order to go through either. So he calls the head of the company that maintains  Prime's web site and introduces the two of us. Jim ask him to call me back and take my order. That is LaRue style customer service.

Got the Gen 3 PRS installed on the .260. Hope to get more range time this weekend. Unfortunately we are so short at work that I am out on another trip this week.

I was using Lab Radar for MV data. The rounds picked up some speed as the barrel started to get some copper in it. The last 10 rds I ran data for averaged 2749 fps. The first round through the gun was 2711 fps.
The rifle liked the Hornady, especially day 2.

Maybe I should give the Hornady a second chance. As the day progressed I was getting higher velocity as well. 2 more boxes before I call it quits with the Hornady.

I do not know how I ever lived without it. Very handy and fast. The data has proven to be of a high quality as well.

Yeah, I would. The Hornady did not impress me until the barrel was seasoned. And then it really impressed me.

I just tried to order and was declined.  Maybe they have a filter since I'm trying to order from Japan and this is an export controlled item.  Oh well, I'll be back in the States tomorrow and will try again.

leave the order in your cart and send them a message through their website. they will contact you to complete it and walk it through. thats what i had to do.

what impressed me most is that after he took my order he walked it back to shipping and i had tracking info in 20 minutes and 30 minutes after that it was scanned to the fedex truck!

I'm sitting in the Osaka airport so I'll just do it when I get home. No big deal since their shipping options only included UPS and they suck, so I'm sure it won't arrive until May sometime since there was a hint of snow in our AO.

That ES is way out of whack. What are you using to check MV?

ETA what I mean to say is something is going on. Do you usually get better results with your reloads?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. This is all from Hornady factory ammo.

First 10 shots out of the rifle was from factory Hornady. Shown as the first group.

I then shot 25 rounds measuring my max load, for my hand loads. Not shown.

Then the send 10 round groups are from Hornady factory ammo again.

ETA: I used a MagnetoSpeed V3

Suffered a Lock and Load fail today, I never ordered the 260 case for the comparator, what a dope!  Off to Amazon to order a .260 and a 6.5CM case, which should be here by Saturday.  I can then do some headspace checks with the new Lapua brass and maybe pull a round from the FGMM and Prime to do the same.  Look for a report sometime over the weekend.

Final picture from Japan (unless you want more).  Pilfering food from the That Lounge for the 11hr trip back to the states.  She was taking salad and putting it in a plastic bag no less...

I did some headspace brass measurements

1.6220" - Unfired Hornady 130 Grain Match ELD
1.6300" - fired Hornady 130 Grain Match ELD

1.6215" - New Lapua Brass
1.6285" - Once Fired Lapua Brass

I don't know if this is typical or not.

Thoughts?

Some case lot info on the Prime I received:

2 Boxes from LaRue - 0209:501 and 0209:561 (received two weeks ago)
Case from Prime - 0209:501 (received a week ago)
Older box - 0209:510 (received 6 months ago)

The chrono data I posted previously was for lot 0209:510.  I fired 75rds (mostly FGMM) on my first range trip so I suspect the barrel is about to pick up some speed.  I'll chrono again on my next range trip and see where the MVs land.  Next report will hopefully be some headspace readings if Amazon comes through with the lock and load pieces I need for the .260.

So, what lots of Prime have others received?

ETA - A lot of smudging on my lot numbers, after looking, the ":" is actually a 1 as as SmokieRiver stated.

I'm still waiting on my Amazon comparator stuff to arrive so I pulled projectiles from a Prime and FGMM.

Prime and FGMM:

Prime and FGMM Projectiles.  We know the FGMM is using the SMK, I'll have to research what Prime is using.  You can clearly see the difference in the taper of the projectiles, ogive and boat tail. The Prime is a 130gr Open Tip Match and the FGMM is a 142gr SMK:

Prime cartridge length:

Prime powder charge, 43.2 grains.  Both powders look the same, but it does look different from my H4350.  Maybe a reloader will chime in and clarify:

The neck size was very consistent with 37 rounds measuring 0.2885 and three measuring 0.2890.

My fired cases measured 0.2960 (7), 0.2965 (3) and three at 0.2970.

The OAL for the 40 factory rounds was anywhere from 2.7790 to 2.7940

Amazon finally came through on two-day shipping on day three!  I guess I'll spend some time measuring headspace later this afternoon.

The cartridge cases are threaded in the back.  You thread the case onto the red tube, stick a bullet into the case and shove it into the chamber.  Once it's there you can push the bullet forward until it hits the rifling.  Then you can measure how far to seat your bullet away from the lands.

The problem with this system are:
1. On an autoloader you are limited by the magazin length which in most cases negates the ability to seat the bullet in an optimal position.
2.  You really need to measure your bullet by the ogive and not the tip.  Tips are inconsistent due to manufacturing limitations, but the ogive is always correct.  Hornady sells ogive adapters for each caliber.  If you are going to get a TRUE reading it's best to use that as well.

All this stuff is good kit but it's usefulness is debatabe in an autloader.  I do it for my bolt guns but have never messed with it on my predatobr.   Hopefully I will be proven wrong.

Short version is it measures your particular chamber so you can decide how to set your bullet seating depth.

Now, did you get the inserts to measure headspace?

Of course not, and to make things worse, the basic comparator includes such desired sizes as .257 and .277. but alas, no .264.

ETA - Amazon is through Optics Planet with an expected arrival of April so it's off to Midway. I guess my afternoon just freed up.

I love reloading.  You can never have enough gadgets.  FYI only use 1 of the red inserts.  I bought 2, one to use for the headspace comparators and one for the ogive comparators-you know, to save time and be efficient?  What I found out is that the red insert pieces vary in legth.  Not a lot but enough to make a difference when you are talking about bumping shoulders.  I threw one away.  You have been warned.

I've had the comparator since my 7.62 tOBR arrived and just didn't think of checking the inserts before I flew off to Japan. Anyways, my Midway order has shipped and when it arrives I'll do some measurements in order to work up some hand loads using the Lapua brass. There are some loads people have posted, and LaRue said to load down to 2450fps with the Bergers, so I'll work up my own and see what happens. I also need a better position behind the rifle (switch from the bench to prone and get centered so I'm not muscling the rifle and pulling shots).

Thanks for the hint about the comparators, I'll measure, pick one and then stick with it.

Hopefully some others who've received their .260s will post their range and load results, and other data points to placate S2Ss OCD / ADD.

I don't own a .260 and I still want the data... and high quality ammo pictures

Why?  When I started this thread I was hoping to have a single repository of useful LaRue 260 stuff.  Adding threads could make it harder to find data in future.  Not hating, just saying...

Excellent!  That Vortex looks nice, way too much for that 18" so just send it my way.

Where was your brass ejecting?????

3-5  o'clock. My Tranqilo suppressor  is broke so I couldn't use it to see how it affected ejection. I got to send it back once I finally get the paperwork cleared.

No. The lock ring that you turn to compress the fingers that grip the rear of the mount is not releasing the fingers. I turn it and there is no resistance. So it's got to go back.

My Midway order arrived (comparator inserts and headspace gauges) so now I have the correct .264 insert to measure where the ogive of a projectile contacts the lands of my barrel, and thus the OAL of any particular load. This is a more reliable method than measuring from the bullets' tip and will allow me to set seating depth and jump for cartridges I'm loading.  I'll leave the headspacing measurements until the weekend.

The lock n load round is threaded to fit on the comparator rod.  In this case, the round was made from Lapua brass:

You place a projectile loosely in the neck and then place into the chamber.  This rod is curved to fit the ejection port of a semiauto:

Once the round is chambered, you hold it in place and push the projectile with the wire insert until it contacts the lands.  You then lock the rod in place so you can get a measurement.  You remove the assembly and place it into the comparator insert that is sized for the .264 and measure the length.  You then use that measurement as a guide and set your OAL and then back off a bit to have the amount of jump off the lands your rifle prefers.

Just about to get started with reloading, and after reading above I still have a lot to learn.

Now all I need to travel to calm down a bit so I can get some range time!

Yeah you're not exactly a basic reloader

Actually, you may be the benchmark.  First reloading press I went Redding T7 with competition dies.  Then I realized I might have go a little over board for just getting started with bushing and competition shell holders . . . But I hate upgrading when I can just make the purchase right the first time.
