A steady hand and an iPhone. Takes some doing to get it lined up. Rest your wrists on the rifle and give it a shot.

This one shows 300, 500, and 700 yards:

In regards to getting the 18" .260 to run correctly, I tested various combinations of buffer weights and springs, both suppressed and unsuppressed.  No issues with getting the rifle to function smoothly unsuppressed; however, suppressed was a bit more challenging.  Running suppressed with the SOCOM 7.62mini and PST in suppressed setting, I had the best results with the H3 buffer and a Springco Orange spring: smooth cycling, buffer impact was less noticeable, good ejection, and brass was also in good shape.  Of note, I am running a rifle length extension with LT spacer, and a JP HP bolt (difference in extractor and ejector spring pressure is also a variable from the factory LT bolt).

Thanks for posting this report. You've been following the thread and know I went through the back and forth with spring and buffer combos, eventually going back to the red spring and H2 once my rifle was, so to say, broken in.  I asked Alan at Sprinco if he had data relating to the differing springs to buffer weights, i.e., white spring equals an H, red = H2 and orange = H3, he did not.

I appreciate you also sending the screengrab on spring weights, I'm reposting it here as well as the original video.

Had to work Sunday and Monday but had a chance to get to the range before sunset Monday. Took the Lab Radar out to try my luck. Ran some Prime and Hornady ELD 130s through the .260. Shot some Prime and Hornady 120 and 140 AMAX through the 6.5 AI. Also put some MK316 Mod0 through the FDE Heavy. All rounds were shot both suppressed and unsuppressed. The cans used were a TranQuillo and a TB Ultra 7 in 6.5.

The Lab Radar was very easy to set up and use. It had no problem tracking all the different size rounds out to 65 yards. That was the furthest distance that I had selected. They advertise 100 and I will try that when I have more time.

I met another shooter there that was new to the sport and had never fired a suppressed weapon. I handed him a loaded magazine and told him to have fun. After his third shot he asked me if I knew where it went. I told him that I thought it was in the same hole as his second shot. He was so excited he did not finish the magazine. Instead he asked to call the range cold and ran down to the target to take pictures.

Which reminds me, I tried to take pictures of the pretty rifles but the sun was setting and it is a covered range so the pics were too dark.

I appreciate all of the information being shared in this thread. Thanks D3 for keeping it going.

Holy info overload thread, been working my way though it for the last 2 days. I now definitely want a .260 and a longer shooting range to shoot at, Maryland seems to be lacking in that department but I have heard some good things about Peacemaker down in WVA (except for the wait list for membership)

I've not shot at Peacemaker, but have heard good things.  The Independence Range is (I believe) open to the public and goes to 300 yards. Get on their waiting list and order that 260, maybe they will both clear at the same time!

Had a short break and took the time to put the data from the last range trip in a spreadsheet. Apologies to D3 for copying his format but it looked so good and I did not want to reinvent the wheel.

I included some FDE Heavy data and some Prime and Hornady 6.5 CM data. The FDE info is for those that have one and I though it might be interesting to compare the Prime 130 load in 6.5 CM. The Hornady 120 and 140 AMAX were the closet thing I had in 6.5 CM to the Hornady 130 ELD in .260.

Ha, I'll send you the spreadsheet if you want it!  It's relatively easy to use but you have to understand a formula's relationship to the cell(s) to ensure you don't copy something and change the formula (SD and ES).  Other than that, it's pretty straight forward.

Interesting that your Prime clocked the same as did mine when my barrel was new.  Your Hornady numbers seem to be just a bit faster though.  I also had the same relationship when firing suppressed.  The Prime was about the same and the Hornady was a tad faster.

Thanks for posting!

Okay, not much of an update tonight, the situation with my Mom is moving towards hospice so there are things I need to do.  It's been expected, we just didn't know when it might be necessary.  Strange is that they're calling it long-term hospice.  I thought those terms were mutually exclusive so I need to find out more about the situation (Mom is in Florida and I'm in VA).

Gorilla ammo arrived today, a case of the 130s and I also ordered a box of the 123gr SMKs.  I'll report on them when I can.  The new Spuhr mount (lower) also arrived so I need to remount the Gen II.

Good shooting guys and hopefully the sparrel guys will be stopping in to report.

This barrel is getting close to a round count of 150. I thought that our numbers for Prime vs Hornady were pretty close.

I used the standard excel formulas for SD and ES. The results were within a few decimals of the LabRadar values. I think that the LabRadar retains some MV values to the right of the decimal and uses them in its ES and SD calculation. That's what accounts for the slight difference.

Thread derail - thanks guys.  Mom has a degenerative brain disease, another of the insidious maladies that slowly robs of person of their cognitive skills.  It's tough to visit when she doesn't remember who you are.  She's at the point where she is deciding not to do things for herself so she will be bed ridden.  I expect she will, at some point start to shut down.  Again, this has been expected, but regardless, it's still hard.

The Quantico ranges may be open this weekend so I may take the .260s back out for some long range fun.  I have to remount that Gen II and my dope will be off a tad, but it should work.

It's an old direct thread Cyclone that I'm using temporarily.  It's a pretty good can.  Was my first suppressor and I even have a second one now. I've used it on different rifles over the years and it seems to do a good job on everything so far. It was most recently on the 308 barrel that just came off that particular tOBR. I have a tranquilo at my dealer. May have it next year. You know.

So after my post from earlier I found the time to shoot again. This time I took it out to 600 yards, and man was that fun. Looks like it needed less than a 14 moa hold (my scope has the moar reticle) which makes me think, if the published bc of the ELD is close to right, I'm just a little shy of 2700 fps out of that barrel. Does that sound about right for that combo?

One more thing I'll need to address is that I had about 4 stovepipe jams out of only 25 or so rounds.  That's with the can, PST in the suppressed position. Of course I'm going to clean the bolt and especially extractor/ejector area.  I think one of you guys suggested some spring and buffer combos, which I'll look at too, but any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Okay, so why am I starting my reply with a picture of the truck at 7-11?  Because I was stuck, it wasn't moving, the shifter was stuck in park! I moved the steering wheel, pushed it back and forth, turned it on and off, checked the fuses and called the damn dealership, who hung up on me four times, no luv.  I called HH6 to see if she had left Charlottesville since I had rifles and ammo in the cab, nope, she's still hanging out with the daughter.  I called AAA (member for 20+ years) and scheduled a flatbed.  Forty-five minutes later Shawn arrived.  First thing he says is "you must have good taste."  He was referring to my LaRue bumper sticker and MBT hat.  I smiled and told him I may have a couple of rifles in the cab; we then talked rifles for a few minutes and he described his new SP1 build.  Anyways, we cycled the truck, pushed it back and forth and  turned the steering wheel, still no luv.  Then Shawn jumps into the cab and pops off a small cap by the shifter and presses a button and boom, it's out of park.  I'm like  and he says that's the shifter release, well shit, that's not in the damn manual! I would hope the dealer could have told me that if they hadn't cut me off four times.     Anyways, that got me back on my way and since I had already been to the range, the balance in the universe was restored.  I have to get it to the dealer and find out what sensor/switch is bad, that it's a special order only made once a millennium and it will cost thousands to fix.

I'm the type that gets to the range early, so I was there 30 minutes before you're allowed first shot (0900).  A couple of other guys showed up and we placed targets.  We were fighting the clock since there was a defensive pistol course heading to the range at 10am, which would make shooting on the rifle range hell since they go cold range like every two minutes.  Anyways, we're ready for first shots when a guy shows up at 8:58am and wants to place a target, okay, drag your ass down there, which he does.  Now I'm looking at his "target" and there is no target.  Which of course he doesn't realize until he walks back from the 100y line and turns around to see there is no target on his target.  Another 5 minutes lost while he goes downrange, again.  As soon as he finishes we go hot and wouldn't you know another guy shows up.  He wants to go cold and we all just gave him a look that told him he was going to wait on us.

I rezeroed the Vortex Gen II on the Mausingfield now that I have a lower Spuhr mount.  I used the Hornady and it just shoots so well I'm going to shoot up my other stuff and just use this 130gr ELD-M as my commercial load.  I also tried shooting some of the Gorilla 123gr SMKs but they were just too tight to the chamber.  I fired three and was experiencing a really heavy bolt so I stopped.

I switched to the LaRue 260 and shot some Gorilla 123 and 130, and some Hornady, while capturing MVs on the LabRadar.  By that time is was 10am and the pistol folks showed up so I packed up and headed to 7-11 for what I thought would be a quick in and out for a cold Snapple.

Clearly I haven't mastered using the iPotato through the scope yet.

Tried the Caldwell V-bag but didn't like it, I went back to the Triad wedge.

Still ejecting at 4 o'clock.

Bolt gun with the Hornady:

LaRue with the Hornady.  It didn't help that a guy came up to me while I was firing the string and interrupted to ask to go cold range.

Two strings with the Gorilla - 123, then 130.  Clearly I was breathing when I shot these.

Of course I'm going to clean the bolt and especially extractor area.  I think one of you guys suggested some spring and buffer combos, which I'll look at too, but any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm getting 2760 - 2780 out of the 22" barrel, broken in.  You should be right there at 2700 and the barrel still has to speed up a bit.

Ref the stovepipes, are you saying the previous round was not ejected and was still in the chamber while the next round was attempting to load?  Or was it a double feed where two live rounds were in the chamber?  If it's the latter, it's a magazine issue.

The former. That rifle was unfailing as a 308.  I do run suppressed almost always now, so I could have some blowback buildup in the bolt, possibly. Hasn't been that long since I've cleaned it though. I'm confident that it's a problem easily worked out. May even work itself out after cleaning. I do have more break-in that I'm looking forward to.

Very frustrating. I belong to a local range that is a relatively nice facility for these parts.  And I really like going. On the rare occasion that I'm the only one there. I was finishing up one day when a fella brought his muzzleloader to sight in. Was calling the range cold after every shot so he could walk down and see if he even hit. As I say, I was leaving, but a couple of the other guys were deciding on when to start the "talk" with him.

Just got back from my first range session with my 22" .260Rem barrel, and I'm impressed. Shot 65 rounds of factory Hornady 130 ELD-M. Rifle ran 100%, and I had the gas block on the suppressed setting even though I was just running a muzzle brake. Bolt locked back every time and brass ejection was strong and consistent, so I'll leave it on suppressed for the time being. Banged steel out to 1008 yards with ease, and I do mean ease. Dial 7.9 mils, hold .5 right and hit a 18" plate every time you pull the trigger. Muzzle velocity trued out to be 2797 even though my Magnetospeed was only showing 2755. With that APA brake on it the gun didn't move at all, watching trace and calling hits for myself was a breeze. This rifle will be my new PRS gun. Next local PRS match is a night match with targets out to 1760, excited to get this rifle out there.

This is the only 100yd paper target I shot, the rest of the rounds were out on steel plates. First few rounds down the tube were to get on paper, and then I shot the group on the bottom right while aiming at the lower orange dot. Made an adjustment and shot the top left and top right groups, made one final adjustment and shot the bottom left group. Shot prone off a bipod and rear bag. 26.5 Baro / 85 deg / 21% environmentals. More pictures and some video to come later.

How did you true you MV?

Hey, D3
Have you started reloading for the 260 yet? I might have to pick your brain for suggestions on dies and components. Also which end of VA are you in?

You can true in most ballistic apps. You shoot targets at multiple known distances and tell the program what your elevation holds were. The program then "trues" the algorithm based on your data. I've never seen a MV be so off, but I've been having issues with my Magnetospeed lately, so I'm trusting what the bullet is telling me downrange.

Went out with FRBaseball today to try out his new 22" .260 barrel and took a few pictures. I've always been a bolt gun snob but this particular set up is making me a believer. He let me take it for a spin and I put the first three rounds I fired into about 4" at 650. Very impressed with this rig.

I am curious about everyone's reloading experiences as well. I'm giving serious thought to necking up 243 brass as opposed to buying factory loaded ammo. Seems everywhere else on the interwebs people are using h4350 powder which is out of stock literally everywhere I can think to look online.

I appreciate the range report – this is where I was hoping the thread would go – more people out shooting their .260s and providing impressions and reports!  A night PRS match with targets to 1760???  Holy cow, I can’t wait for that report. I have a APA brake and might just throw it on and give it a try.  I also have to true up my data as my drop at 1000y was about a MOA under what was calculated.

I also want to say how different it is trying to shoot a 100y bug hole versus shooting steel at range.  While you may struggle to shoot ever decreasing groups at 100, the dynamics (not the fundamentals) change when shooting steel at distance.  You still control sight picture, breathing, trigger and follow-through, but the pressure is different. You can see if you pulled a shot a ¼ MOA and it wears on you whereas shooting steel gives you that immediate audible feedback or requires a simple hold.

Yes and no.  I’ve started the process and just need to get moving.  The issue with my mom in hospice demands my attention and there’s a surprising number of “things” you have to do working arrangements between three states.  As to dies and stuff, I went with Whidden due to their micrometer seating die, which will be primarily for the bolt gun 260 loads, and their bushing die so I could set neck tension for the gasser. I would say any good dies will work, Whidden, Forster or Redding S for precision but given COAL, you may not have to get as anal as me.    Do some research and see what may work in your budget and needs.

I’m going to use H4350 as I stocked up and will be working up loads at 2gr increments.  Since the seating depth is somewhat dictated by the magazine, I may load to COAL and see what happens. If that doesn't work, then I can mess with seating depth a bit.

Wow, rifle and photo skills, excellent!  Can you comment on the camera/lens you used and some of the settings to bring out those colors and clarity?

Keep looking if you like the H4350, Hodgdon posted a picture a week or so ago of pallets of it going out to distributors. If not, check the reloading threads and you can see people have some alternatives that have been working in their bolt guns.  There is a .260 reloading thread in the precision rifle section with some loads, clearly YMMV.
