Here's a picture of the spreadsheet I use for tracking reloading data.  This works for me, but I'd be interested in what you guys may be using.  If anyone wants a copy of the spreadsheet, which has two rifle workbooks (8.5x11), drop me an IM with your e-mail addy and I'll send you a master copy that is editable.

Filled out using a computer and with group pictures inserted.  Handwritten works too.

Took my small load test out today. 5 of the 8 groups fired were under .75 MOA.

I initially fired 100 rounds of Hornady 130 ELD-M factory ammo during my first two range sessions with the rifle. From those 100 pieces of 1x fired brass, only 26 were under max SAAMI length after I resized them. I loaded 24 rounds and shot eight 3-round groups. I'm waiting on my .260 case holder and cutting head for my Giraud trimmer to arrive before I can trim the rest of the brass and continue with the load tests.

41.8 of Reloder 16 under a Nosler 140 CC showed a lot of promise. Seems 41.8-42.2 of just about any powder is the sweet spot for these 140-class bullets. All of the 6.5 Creedmoor and 260 Remington rifles I've played with were in that range.

I'd be interested in your final results.  A couple of questions:

Did you bump the shoulder back, if so how much?

What COAL did you load to?

Bumped the shoulder back .003 to 1.621". I don't know the COAL, I usually just measure base-to-ogive, which was 2.277 with that Nosler 140. I know it's short, it will fit in a PMAG.

Both are shooting very well in my rifle, despite a velocity difference between the two.  I shot a 0.290 group with the Prime back in April and a 0.936 10-shot group.  The Hornady is performing just as well.

The issue I introduce is trying to do too much in a session and that in itself is distracting.  Knowing you need to shoot both the bolt and gasser, knowing that you need to get MVs and test 3, 4, 5 differing types of ammo, etc., all distract you when you're trying to shoot bug holes at 100.  I record the individual MVs and that takes you off the rifle and your have to reposition, bolt trigger vs MBT, mechanics of the rifles, etc., etc.  I just need to get out, do one thing and do it well when doing some of this testing.

I'm headed back to the local range tomorrow to test some loads and validate data.  I was hoping tomorrow would be a prep for a 1000y range day Saturday but the Marines cancelled our range this weekend so they're either taking Father's Day weekend off or they have real training to do.

Here's the Order of March for tomorrow's range activities since, again, I'm running out of stuff to post.

I agree I hear a ton of folks on the Hide using the 139 Scenar with success, that is the one 140 grain bullet I have not tried. I'm shooting a Tikka 260 while I wait for my Larue 260. So far the Berger hybrids have worked very good, Im getting sub .5 moa groups with them. I just got 500 Nosler 140 rdf and Hornady 140 eldm to try out just because they are a hell of a lot cheaper than the Bergers.

The Hornady 140 eldm and Lapua 139 Scenar are starting to get scarce, that's the only down side to shooting a 6.5 is finding reloading components. I'm currently on the hunt for some Reloader 16 to try out just because I'm watching my stash of h4350 wither away and it's not getting easier to find.

For loading mag length I would think the Lapua 139 and Nosler 140 rdf would be great for shooting distance as they both like a good jump, the Berger hybrids aren't too bad either but they did better .2 off in my rifle which was 2.90 coal.

So true, and I'm running out of stuff to post anyways.

I have two boxes of the 139 Scenars I could load and give a try.  Today is the last range trip for data and then it's time to experiment a bit with the Scenars.

Great info - I'll go check it out on the hide - thanks!

ETA - Loaded 10 Lapua 139s and 10 Barnes 140 Match Burners: Peterson brass, F210M, 42grs of H4350 to COAL of 2.800.  I added them to today's testing so I'll track MVs and see how they perform in the bolt and gasser.

I'm back from the range and processed some of the groups and data.  I have to say the Lapua 139s and Barnes 140s were pretty good in the 260 bolt gun with a stock load and no tweaking.  I loaded to 2.800 at 42grs of H4350 to see how they would perform, not too bad.  Scenars on the top and Barnes on the bottom:

The results with the same load in the 260 LaRue were different, it did not like those Barnes loads at all. Lapua on the left, Barnes on the right:

The rest of my testing with the LaRue was frustrating today.  There was just no consistency, two shots touching and then a shot 1MOA off.  I'm going to tear the rifle down, re-torque everything and check the optic as groups are getting worse, not better.

Didn't get a chance to shoot the 139's in the Larue?

Didn't you have issues before and your tore down the rifle to check everything? What was the out come?
Also check the barrel centering pin (I think that's what it's called) just for grins. Make sure it's in there tight.

Sorry, I edited and updated my post as I did shoot the Scenars in the LaRue.

I tore it down, cleaned it up and put it back together.  It was shooting well, but today, not so well.  I'll tear it down again and make sure that extension pin is tight!

I'm going to process the LabRadar data as the Hornady 130 ELD-Ms are not as consistent in ES and SD as a previous lot.

Shot some 120ELD out of the 6.5.  Velocity around 2,900.  To 1,000 they do not give up much to the 130,140's.

I plan to reload some .260 with 120's, for a "18 gun I think the velocity bump will be the ticket.

Just got back from the range. Unfortunately, I am an idiot and forgot to bring the factory 260 ammo, so I only had 10 rounds of factory ammo already loaded in a mag, and 5 rounds of my reloads to chrono.

The 5 rounds of 41.8 Reloder 16 under a 140 Nosler CC were right at 2754 with an SD of 7. Measured with a magnetospeed V3. First round went straight through the dot, then the next four went high and right. I blame the chrono. That cluster of 4 measured .434" CTC.

Attached File

Then fired 3 rounds of factory Hornady 130s, came left a few clicks and fired the last 7 rounds at a 2MOA plate at 645. Video will be up later of the plate. Here is the 3 rounds at 100. That measured .304" CTC.

Attached File

My main goal for the day was to get an SR25 zeroed and chrono'd for a class that I'm taking later this year. Laid down a couple 3/4MOA groups and then smacked the shit out of steel all the way to 1008 yards, so mission accomplished.

Wife tells me I have to get ready for a wedding in an hour, but I just got a heavy buffer and spring for the .260 and wanted to try it out.
Had a 1 hole group going through 3 rounds, and decided to go for 10.
Should've quit at 9, it would've been one big ragged hole.
Slash's heavy carbine buffer, 8.6oz compared to 4.3ish stock.  I like how it cycles, noticeably softer.  No problems with ejection or failure to feed.
This is probably the right spring/buffer combo for this suppressor.

Just ordered some H4350 thanks to the link above, if it wasn't that I want to load some 120's there is no economic reason to reload when Hornady 130's are this good.

Got the RCBS set up on my portable loading bench.
Used the .289 neck bushing and resized one piece. It left rings on the neck.
Any idea why? No debris in the bushing.

Happy Father's Day!

I have 10 bottles of dust for the crew following the thread.  If you can use one for the summer grilling season, drop me an IM with your name and address and I'll send you a bottle.  One to a customer, void where prohibited, promotion can end at any time and sorry, only good for you, I'm not getting into the send it to my cousin's friend who ordered from LaRue 3-years ago and now lives in Tajikistan.

I cleaned and stripped the tOBR, put it back together and then put another optic on it that I know is good (came from the bolt gun before I upgraded to the Gen II).  It's back to the range this morning to see how it's shooting today.
