Is the 14.7 upper you sell (the M4A1), a true M4A1 barrel profile ? I am wanting to build these for my wife and kids, but want more like an A2 profile. I am afraid the heavier profile will be too much muzzle weight.

The M4A1 profile is heavier under the handguard, but an A2 is heavier at the muzzle.

Go with the M4A1,  its a bit heavier overall,  but the weight is more centered and balances better.

What I meant to say is.... I want the M4 profile after the gas block, then a lighter, like an A2/m4 profile behind. I don't foresee my wife and kids needing to perform break contact firing scenarios, and worried the extra weight of the m4a1 profile may be a turn off. The whole reason i am looking at the 14.7 (besides shorter o.a.l.), is 14.7 should be lighter at the muzzle than 16?

Gotchya...they also sell a lightweight 14.7" mid-length upper assembly, but its not in stock at the moment.

Its a fairly light barrel the whole length, other than where the FSB sits...I have the 16" version and its easy to handle, so I'd imagine the 14.7" would be even better.

If you don't have a problem building an upper, there is a lightweight 14.5" Spike's barrel assembly in EE that's fairly cheap, you'll just need to get a muzzle device pinned on to make it legal.

Definitely go light weight profile over govt or m4A1. For a women that is worried a about weight I would try to get a lightweight with the 0.625" gas block.
