Steve, I recently completed a build using one of the RRA (Wilson) 18 inch bull barrels (1:8 twist). I have a question about down range accuracy and the recommended bullet weights. With Black Hills 55 g. I get about a 1 inch spread at 100 yards. With Federal Match (Sierra 69g Match), it will do 0.25 to 0.35 at 100 yards. I am very happy about this, but the groups with this load then open up to about 1.25 inches at 200 yards. Do you think a bullet with a weight of 75g would perform better at range? Or is the 0.35 opening up to 1.25 at 200 "normal". What's been the RRA experience with the 18 inch, 1:8 and various weight bullets. Thanks, Tom W. |

A 1:8 bbl is going to do it's best with longer/heavire bullets at any range. The 55gr is about as light as you can go and have any decent result from a 1:8. If you're getting 1/4 to 1/3 MOA at 100, and increasing to just over 1/2 MOA at 200, you're doing very well. You might try the 75gr, but your results now are already exceptional. Steve/RRA |

Phil / Steve, The 77g SMK's worked well. The way it went was: 55g Black Hills MV 3000fps 100yds 1" 69g SMK BTHP Fed Gold MV 2780fps 100yds 0.30" 200yds 1.50" 77g SMK BTHP Fed Gold MV 2510fps 100yds 0.30" 200yds 1.00" The barrel is the RRA/Wilson 18" Bull (1:8). Very happy with the 200 yd groups with the 77g. Will start doing some handloading now with these. The funny thing is that this AR is outshooting my Rem 700 22-250 varmit rifle. Best regards, Tom W. |
