| Just picked up a NIB LE6920. My question is about the bolt. It has no markings at all? No "C" No "MPC"? and no blob of paint either. Just wondering if anyone else has a non marked Colt bolt? My SN# is 287XX. My last 6920 was MPC marked and had a glob of grey paint on it. Just curious. |

Is yours made in USA, or Canada? what about the other aspects: is it an M16 shrouded carrier, markings under HGs, forge marks, stock (as compared to that shown in Skintop's 6520 thread), box it came in, etc.? before reading your follow up post, I was going to sugggest a closer look at the bolt, as they are sometimes very faintly marked. oh, and aren't pix mandatory around here?  congratulations on your new rifle, regalgseguy! |
No, it is actually widely used these days. BATF ruled the use is in, and of itself not an effort to convert. Colt LE rifles have shipped with them since around March 2005. USGI bolts are required to be proofed and marked MP once they have passed. Commercial bolts are not. Since 2001 we have seen quite a few commerical bolts simply marked C. Never heard of one marked MC though. I propose that MC is short for MegaCycle: dictionary.reference.com/search?q=megacycle The pic is of a letter to Colt's lawyer, it is not a Ruling. The only Ruling the ATF has put out in regards to M16 parts is Ruling 81-4 that states a drop in auto sear is a machine gun. |
| OK, I got an idea and used my scanner to scan the bolt at high resolution. What it revealed is a bolt that was very poorly stamped "MP" Looks like it's a bolt that was destin for an M16/M4???? I bought the rifle from a Police Officer in MI. He got it on the letterhead of his deparment. The rifle is unfired. |

This is one of those situations that would be very hard or ATFE to undo. There are too many rifles out there with the shrouded, full-circle bolt carrier. . . . At worst, the ruling would be prospective. |

My 6920, which I bought new in 2002, had the Sporter unshrouded and half circle carrier in it. Everytime I shot it, the firing pin retaining pin would get bent and beat all to hell. I finally got tired of prying it out everytime I field stripped the weapon so I decided I would replace the carrier with the LE version (which it should have had in the first place) but changed my mind when I saw how much it was going to cost to buy a new carrier, pin and retainer. Instead, I called Colt up earlier this year and spoke to someone in customer service about it. He took my Department address and said they would send me a new firing pin, retainer and carrier. I asked what carrier it would be and he said "the M16 carrier." I said OK and in about 6 weeks or so I finally had all the parts. Works like a dream now and no more mangled retainer. Apparently Colt finds no problem with putting M16 carriers in semi-autos and, of course, neither do I. Its what should have been in it from the start. |
| Guntoter, you have had better luck with Colt than I. I contacted Bill Chartier, who I was told was the Colt service representative for LE rifles. He told me the carriers were not “defective”, but that there had been a bad batch of FP retaining pins. He sent me several retaining pins and asked that I try them. |
